There was a program being run for an internship which was exactly that - helping community college students get experience at Stanford but sadly she didn’t get in.

I understand the desire to create enzymes to degrade plastics (e.g. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-022-04599-z) but we should think carefully about the consequences.
When plastics are depolymerized, the fossil-origin carbon in them is converted to small molecules, now accessible to metabolism. Thus this carbon will turn into CO2 (or methane under anaerobic conditions)
There are currently gigatonnes of plastics sitting in landfills, currently sequestered as inert solids. #chemistry #biochemistry

I study #development and cell #signaling using #Drosophila. In my lab at #UMass Boston, we use #proteomics, #genetics, #imaging, and a bit of #biochemistry to study mechanisms of organ #growth and tissue #patterning. We like to discover and analyze #protein interaction #networks. Current interests are #Hippo and #ERK signaling, and control of #brain development. And no one can escape from #Notch.

I’m Josh! I’m a dev mostly doing data science and API work in #environmental tech and #biochemistry. But I do a lot of tinkering, mostly in C/C++ #rust #python #java and #javascript. I also spend a lot of my free time on my #homelab self-hosting everything I can get my grubby little hands on.
