as ice and snow arrived, #bewick's and #whooper #swan moved further south-west. I could hear common #cranes calling, they are hardy #birds. 11 whoopers still here. The moor lake is almost frozen, 2 mute swans and 1 whooper was paddeling in the last spot of open water. #Otter tracks in the snow at his usual crossing.
Flocks of geese flying over south-west.
Little birds switched from #birb to #borb now.

Neat, I've never seen Fox Sparrows outside my building before! But there were two of them together, foraging with the Juncos and House Sparrows.
Some time ago, I backed Bird Buddy on Kickstarter. It's an automated bird feeder with a camera included that's backed by a global database that recognises the birds that visit. Over the weekend I placed mine on our back deck and a satin bowerbird and a common bronzewing both figured out what's going on. Soon enough, I hope the crimson rosellas and the various other birds we get figure it out as well.

This gorgeous little bird, along with three juveniles, were foraging by the side of the trail and occasionally scurrying for cover when joggers went by. A parent and three children, I assume?
I have been yearning for a good photo of an adult since my last one waaaay back in April 2020 when I was just a tiny baby birder., and I haven't seen them since Thanksgiving last year! I knew it was only a matter of time and vigilance

A shy Black-throated Gray Warbler. Not quite a lifer, but I've only seen them once before. Note the conspicuous lack of a black throat -- that tells you it's immature. I do love the little yellow spots above the eyes!
