Yet, much bi+ #activism focuses on ending #bisexual #erasure as if it was an end in itself. It's not, it's just one part of the process oppressing bi+ people. Our goal should be ending that #oppression. We should strive to make bi+ folks empowered as full participants and leaders in our communities and societies. We must end the threats to our #health and our quality of life as well, in solidarity with #progressive movements.
We talk about #bisexual #erasure as if it was the end result of #monosexism—the system that puts bi+ folks down—hurting us. But it's not. It's just the middle part of it, its tool. Biphobes erase us to push the belief that we don't exist nor matter, that we're not worth talking about nor taking seriously. Once this is done, they have all the power to call the shots in the #straight and #queer worlds. And they can do what they want with us without anyone in a position to push back hard.

I think the LGB without QT crowd is probably more despicable to me than the ones that hate on the whole community. If they’re actually part of LGB, then in addition to bigotry, you have an added layer of betrayal. Second you can’t separate them in the first place. Many LGB overlaps with QT and vice versa. I’m so sad that these folks are swindled to oppress their community instead of standing together.

All this stuff is interpretation of what's going on with the movements, based on my own experience and other things I've read. There's always room for more nuance, complexity and different interpretations. Still, the concepts of bi+ #allyship and accompliceship are rarely spoken of in gay circles. #bisexual

@noam It's probably not accurate to say that there's a #LGBTQ movement. There's more of a gay and lesbian movement, a big-Q #queer movement, a #bisexual and bi+ movement, and a transgender movement—with some overlap. There's a history of the #trans and bi movements fighting together for inclusion in the gay and lesbian movement, which led to the #LGBT acronym in the 90s and early 00s. But bi and trans issues were usually an afterthought in a movement where leaders were gay men and lesbians.
@noam About individual jerks, even though it's individuals who have biphobic views, like any prejudice in society, there's a system that helps spread it around. For bi+ folks, this system's called #monosexism. A part of it is rooted in the gay and lesbian movement. This doesn't mean everyone in that movement has biphobic views. But it means that many key figures in the movement have opposed #bisexual inclusion, and they've chosen goals that primarily benefited lesbians and gay men.
Visibility Isn't Enough. We Need #Bisexual Audibility.

Until #Pride in Aug I primarily ID'ed as #pansexual. That changed somewhere between reading Julia Shaw's "Bi - The Hidden Culture and Science of #Bisexuality" and explaining to some bigots in a weird interview that #bisexual means both homo and hetero, i.e. is non-binary, and no, there's not too many genders.
Since gender & its expression is so deeply personal, I no longer feel like differentiating between attraction to personality vs gender makes sense for me

„A lot of people I'm sad to say have grown up with a very limited understanding of bisexuality because with the exception of a lucky few, most of us didn't have access to bisexual history or activism and got the bare minimum and narrow description of bisexuality which is the common "attracted to men and woman."
While bisexuals being attracted to men and woman is a technically correct definition since bisexuality does include them, it's not the whole truth and leaves out about 99% of the entire story. What people think that pansexuality is, is in truth what bisexuality has always been.
When it comes to there being a "difference" between bi and pan, honestly there really is no difference between Bi or Pan that many bisexuals cis, trans, and nonbinary alike have pointed out, doesn't end up relying on biphobia, transphobia, bi-erasure of bisexual history or just a lot of misinformation.
The whole reason pansexuality even became popular is because a 2002 Live Journal post by a teenager who also had no knowledge of bisexuality or it's history, said bisexuality was transphobic and only included cis men & woman which ended up spreading biphobia, and transphobia from there because the overwhelming majority of people just didn't have anyone to say "hey that's wrong, this is what bisexuality is" and set the record straight.
In reality bisexuality has always included and welcomed trans, nonbinary, and gender non conforming people even before we had modern terminology to describe them.
The definition "Regardless of gender" itself was invented by bisexual activists to define bisexuality and the modern bisexual movement that started in the 70's. So regardless of gender is bisexualities real definition.
