Today was filled with gaming. We played Takenoko, Quest for El Dorado, Trekking Through History and Forbidden Island. No pics today, unfortunately. #boardgames
Here is part one of my #tutorial explaining how to play Thunder Road Vendetta from #RestorationGame #BoardGames

Kanagawa is another beautiful game that we hardly ever play. It's fine with two, but the drafting mechanism would undoubtedly be most fun with four. It's very luck-based, mitigated somewhat by being allowed to know the backs, and thus categories, of the lesson cards that will be coming out.
@peterdrake thinks the wooden brush pieces look like caramel apples.

Stayed up late for a solo game of cartographers and got a fairly decent score (but nowhere near my best of 81, still not sure how that happened)
I always struggle the most with the settlement objectives for some reason, I’m almost certain there aren’t as many explore cards with red terrain as there are all the others
Amazingly I finally found a use for choosing purple (monsters) for the one-square wild card: the objective that requires 5 different terrain types in a row

The solo gaming table and Nemo’s War have been commandeered by Mrs. Molotov. I think she’s addicted.

Playing Arkham Horror with @LucyCorbett. Going to pick this game back up tomorrow, but we're not doing too badly so far. We're playing the "Shots in the Dark" scenario. #boardgames

I played a game of Ark Nova with the A.R.N.O bot, I lost with a margin (at L4 difficulty) also it never went for a university nor a partner zoo, but it get a lot of points just by selecting sponser and cards action (I used a d8 to select actions) but still, much better than the original solo mode. If you want to play it solo, right now, try this.
The follow up was the 3-player semi co-op on the Spanish Civil War. Terry took the un cooperative nature to heart and it almost paid off for him. After losing the North we lost the South front on the very last event card of the game. Poor Anarchist player Karl never held the government long enough to get any additional chits in the bag of glory. Fun game though. No Pasaran!

First play for all of us of the the Ancient Civilizations of the Middle East #boardgame yesterday. It’s a civ-lite game for 1-6 players. More players seems better imho. Be warned there is a lot of screwage events and card effects. Be ready to roll with the punches. ACME (what a great abbreviation) is so much better than it’s predecessor ACIS. The map layout and addition of religion adds so much more flavour 👍👍👍

Latest episode of Cult of the Old is out now wherever you get your casts. This time we tackle one of the meanest games ever, Citadels.

Another week and another session with #Frosthaven This time one of our characters needed a helping hand in getting some soil samples (???). What can we do - we of course offered hime a helping hand! See how it went!

not so negative area control, and a very interesting engine builder.
It was an amazing experience for me.
Digital implementation kinda kills a big aspect of it (you lose track of what the other get and if they has more tiles, or more resource or whatever) but I recommend even trying it there if you can't find it.
There is a little upkeep (when you want to re-shuffle the deck you have to find new cards and add them to the deck) but the game is fast, and maybe a little weird for the first few round. but try it. you might like it if you like player interaction, not so negative /c #boardgames
My cat beats me again, this time Lords of Hellas by Awaken Realms. This is getting embarrassing. #boardgames #cats #AwakenRealms

Ginkgopolis made my top 20 after only 4 plays. Normally I prefer not to rate a game before 7 plays (not sure why seven, just an arbitrary self imposed limit) unless I hate it so much and I see no hope at all, or in this case I see the fun right away.
The game is simple, not many rules, but man, is it deep? The area control is really impressive, and the engine building using the cards is also fun.
It is alpha on BGA, and there you might miss on the actual interaction, I mean /c

Is anyone here a fan of the board game #Alhambra? I had these expansions but I’ve decided to keep just the base game. $0 to anyone, just pay shipping from Melbourne. #boardgames

TaoTao, the Raider Duo from Bite the Bullet

Finally with a change of strategy - and after roughly a dozen games & a heavy dose of luck - I have won as the British, albeit by a razor thin margin, with one card to spare! ( and massive British losses) Who would have thought you could defeat the French in “Siege of Quebec” without besieging Quebec itself? #wargaming #SolitaireGaming #solowargaming #boardgames

Dann #TheKingIsDead: 2P; 30 min; gewonnen.
#Boardgames
Another round of Dominant Species: Marine at #boardgames night, this time placing 3/4 while the leader rode the same vent scoring engine I used last game. RNG conspired to kick the shit out of one particular player, who's kind of getting turned off by it. I learned afterward that there's a minor rule we've been playing wrong but I don't think it would have mattered.
Also, learned Skymines, technically new game 31/100 but also it's mostly a reskin of Mombasa (2015) without the colonalism. 7.2/10

I've been enjoying learning a few #boardgames via BoardGameArena tutorials. Much more interesting and interactive than just reading rules, but the quality of the tutorials varies.
So far I've tried:
• It's a Wonderful World - Combo-building deck builder. A bit bland. Theme and art add nothing.
• Gizmos - Combo-building deck builder. Abstract and more intuitive than It's a Wonderful World. I'll investigate more.

I’ve mostly given up on Goodwill at this point, but they can still be good for a few things like board games.
Found this Settlers of Catan today for $2!

Today we played Marvel United for the first time. We picked up this game for a whopping $12 on Amazon. It was a lot of fun and we managed to defeat Red Skull with Hulk and Captain America. #boardgames

Today, to ignore the noise of nightmare neighbours, I played the 2002 non-classic board game Vampire Hunter (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3529/vampire-hunter), while listening to Fleetwood Mac and The Kinks for several hours.
Several hours, with that game?! Yeah, house rules to make a fairly bleh game with a cool gimmick (night and day tower lights, and spaces/cards/dice that change according to said light) into a tough, tension filled co-op game is pretty good fun.
Finally getting some of the #ThunderRoadVendetta expansion content a whirl. Big Rig Vs the Final Five.#BoardGames #RestorationGames

Monopoly gets a New Forest edition, where you can get sent to jail for littering. I wonder if there are also fines for feeding the ponies...
We walked around a neighbourhood party/garage sale this morning a found this game!

Been a great day of gaming so far. Wins and losses, but do much fun!

Now that we've finished our Pandemic Legacy Season 0 campaign, played with our friends J. and L., the four of us will turn back to #Charterstone, a very different legacy game.
We haven't played it since February 2020, so tonight I reread the initial set of rules. This review of Charterstone by @TabletopBellhop also refreshed my memory of how the game worked: https://tabletopbellhop.com/game-reviews/charterstone/
It was really helpful! Of course, we'd already played two games, so tomorrow I'll have to look at our manual and see what we unlocked.
Heading to the very first Melbourne Board Game Market today. It's an idea that's been kicking around my brain for years and so I'm a little nervous about how well it goes.
If you're looking to discover great local board games or find some preloved games, come on down to Collingwood Town Hall from 10am today (until 4pm)
Wait a minute, Bob is poking around in an Alexander Pfister title? You betcha! Come along for a peek into Boonlake from Capstone Games.

Today is my birthday and I got some lovely board game gifts. 😁

Finally brought a friend around on #AeonsEnd, who'd disliked despite its genre combination. The main thing was to emphasize the degree to which economic builds are punished in the game -- you really simply cannot afford to have players buying money on the first two rounds, unlike other deckbuilders where it's a solid start to most strategies.
Anyways, then the guy went home and pushed through another like ten rounds of it on TTS on his own lol
We did manage to make time for a round of pandemic the cure cause I was desperate for something fun. We lost btw 😂 We ran out of dice in the bag. #BoardGames

Finally after over 20 years I got to play this classic. I should have bought it back then.
Clean design. One hour long. Lots of tough decisions and player interaction.

Keltis: Das Kartenspiel
I've now played most of the iterations of the Lost Cities family. This is a good one but has a couple of excess wrinkles in the rules. I still prefer Keltis: Der Weg der Steine for being more elegant.

Dear nerdy board gaming friends:
I'd love to play my card game, Peeve Wars, with a friend across the country while live streaming.
Is there a way to somehow do that?
For example, I thought of having my husband make two identically ordered decks, and then I could mail the other player one, and we could use our duplicate decks to play together (with some "promise not to look" activity), but then I realized you usually have to shuffle the discard pile and my scheme fell apart!
Been mulling over an idea for a while but trapped myself into building a browser based version thinking I could rapidly prototype and got stuck in the mud rewriting the game engine over and over to try different game rules.
Now I've drawn the game board on a side from cardboard box, hand-drawn some game tiles, and nabbed some pieces from Risk. We've learnt so much more in just an hour or so of playing through several variations than I did from a few days of CSS and JavaScript.

I played the Bloodborne card/board game for the first time last weekend. It's good, with a lot more emergent complexity that you'd expect.
And most importantly it captures the feeling of playing Bloodborne really well, that tension of maybe losing all your accumulated points if you die but maaaaybe you can still manage to beat the next monster before the other players do and secure that sweet loot.
It's a nice mix of cooperation and competition. You clear a dungeon of monsters together but ultimately you need to get the edge on your fellow Hunters to win. And you can absolutely lie to them.
Jaipur could perhaps be thought of as a stepping stone to Splendor. It's quick to set up and an entire game will take less than 30 minutes. The swap-to-make-sets game play is super simple. But probably too simple? My dad could handle it, but there are plenty of other two-players that @peterdrake and I would choose before this one. If the cards weren't so beautiful, and the box so small, I don't know if it would have survived our occasional cullings.
I’ve solved Andy Hopwood’s board game Mijnlieff: with perfect play, it’s a win for the second player. See https://iamkate.com/games/mijnlieff/ for more details, or https://github.com/KateRoseMorley/mijnlieff-solver for the code.
Solving Mijnlieff was one of my motivations for learning Rust, as my initial JavaScript attempt would have taken many days to run (based on running a partial analysis). The Rust version takes under a minute to analyse just over a billion games on my 2022 MacBook Air.

Got my first 3D printer with an automated color system, so I started adapting my Dynamod Dungeon Tiles models to take advantage of it. These doors are not painted but printed in place with three different filament colors!
