The Gifts by Liz Hyder

I've not got a whole heap to say about this. It was fine. I think my main issue was that there was a host of characters and no one to really latch on to. And they all seemed alike in personality so that often only the context of the scene informed me who was involved. And it didn't explore the wider mystery of the premise. But yeah. It was fine.

This #book was the first time I mentioned my mother in law knowing a hitman in publication. The same week I published it and started an associated social media campaign, several FB accounts flocked to the page and started leaving super hateful shit behind, encouraging me to commit suicide. Some acted like they knew me and accused me of cheating on my wife (instead of the inverse).

This is the story of how I was cosigned to death for being trans by an FBI informant.

Hello lovely #book reviewing people. Or people who are intrigued at the idea of reviewing a book. Or people who love alt-history or comic fantasy.

If anyone is intrigued at the thought of reading a funny alt-Tudor history fantasy whodunnit, I have ebook review copies of my new novel, OverLondon available that are, even now, doing a dodgy digital dance, desperate to be prodigiously perused. (I couldn't help myself.)

OverLondon is sexy, it's orange, it features a world created by Anne Boleyn after she's gone on a rampage and it's even got crime solving pirates. (Pirates!)

I can't promise that reading this book for review will imbue you with a confident pirate strut for the ages and gift you with the charisma of a thousand dashing swashbucklers, but it might.

There is a cover quote by C.K. McDonnell that says "A delightful romp, chock-full of wonderfully bonkers ideas." which is rather nice.

The centre of the book features a shirty looking black chicken wearing a crown. Why? I'm afraid that's a secret for people who read the book. I'm not saying reading about this cover has imbued you with pirate mightiness, but it might have.
