I’m reading “Ministry of the Future” right now and I’m really enjoying it.

There is a part of the book where refugees in a camp are told that the world has decided that they can go live anywhere they want. That they are now citizens of the world.

And I just started crying when I read it. The idea that we would treat everyone with dignity is just so profoundly good. Migrants go through such hell to just try to live. We should be better to them.

This one is while dark and deadly, is not the dark and melancholy fair I've come to associate with Sarah Gailey.

It is an over the top, western caper (Operation), with carnivorous hippos.

The pacing feels a little slack at times and it's not as plot-driven as you might expect, but it's otherwise engrossing and the writing is a pleasure to read! Have made an order online for the first book in the trilogy, The Silence of the Girls, already. Can't wait.

Speaking of the escapist, I've been digging back into the retelling of classic #mythology having enjoyed Madeline Miller's Circe when it first came out. This is only my second #MargotBennett book. Absolutely loved The Man Who Didn’t Fly from #BritishLibraryCrimeClassics. Was completely gripped and can see why she had such a stellar screenwriting career. However, I wish I hadn’t read that there is a film version with William Shatner in it doing a British accent as I could not stop thinking about this while reading this ingenious and brilliantly character driven book. #bookstadon #crimefiction

@pluralistic I just bought Chokepoint Capitalism from my local bookstore--Ann Arbor has lots of them. I'm reading it along with the son of my oldest friend who is a software engineer--then we're getting together after we're done to have a mini book group discussion (his suggestion). I love that he (GenZ) likes talking with me (Boomer)--discussion over interesting books is a great vehicle for strengthening relationships across generations.
