Being a wild exploration Link, I went into TOTK like #Botw and ran around exploring. This led me to discover that an order was designed to the game. Once I cleared the main dungeons, I had to talk to people for the next leg, and quests started and finished immediately because I had completed them.

I have the map complete (over and under).

I found the Master Sword way before I was meant to - by accident.

I got to the final boss door very early (and plopped a teleporter pad there - heh).

The design keeps amazing me. They do a better job at teaching some under the radar mechanics this time around.

But why can't I pet the doggos?

This might be a hot take, but I knew from the first trailer that I prefered the art direction of #BotW over #TotK.

70 hours in and I still feel the same way.

I'm obviously not very impressed by #TOTK but because it's still built on #BOTW I can’t fucking stop playing it, lmao

Finished the Champions’ Ballad DLC and it was very worthwhile. The last battle was a little spoiled for me from Age of Calamity but still a good time. Now the only thing I have left that I want to do in #BotW is the Trial of the Sword. Last time I attempted it I got squashed to death by a Hinox with a sliver of health remaining and I haven’t made a second attempt.

Really, my capsule review of #TOTK from a few dozen hours in is that it’s more #BOTW, which is fantastic, but a lot of the changes/additions feel awkward or phoned in.

I’m gonna blame #COVID presumably landing a jump-smash attack on development halfway through, for this though.

I find myself playing #Zelda #TOTK in very short bursts. I still can’t get into it the way I did #BOTW but hopefully as the stamina increases and getting around the world becomes easier that’ll change

Now almost 100 hours into #TOTK, the percentage counter on the map says 50.32%. I assume the majority of what remains is Koroks? Finished the main story last week – fantastic, even elevated #BOTW a little. Apparently still a TON of side quests too, no idea where they are even hiding. Uncovered the full map very early. The longer I play, the more grating the weaker parts of the game become. It's great – it's what I wanted and expected… and it absolutely does not surpass Breath of the Wild for me.

4 days into BOTW, enjoying it quite a bit! A bit more than HL even. Pretty sure I beat it in hours already 😶

It definitely is a game to play handheld, not docked. Even though I don't have the OLED.

While the world can feel empty, the controls are much more intuitive and no aspect of it has felt off (except in performance at times)

The art style is much nicer handheld.

Zelda has got me hooked. #totk is much better than #botw in terms of abilities, puzzles, and map design.

There are many things to love and/or hate about Tears of the Kingdom but you have to respect the willingness to occupy that beloved map, the whole beautiful world of #botw, and adhere to it and respect it and then fuck it up so mercilessly. I loved the Succession finale, but #totk is way harsher.

Since I brought this up on some Twitch chat and it's apparently not as widely known as I thought - watch this #Nintendo presentation from 2017 about breaking conventions with #Zelda #BreathOfTheWild #botw. It's long, but worth it.

It won't be an exagerration to say that this presentation at some point prevented me from rage quitting BOTW and never touching it ever again.

@Sonikku Oh haha. I have to “share” our switch with the kids, so don’t get a lot of time on it. Whenever it feels like I’m getting the hang of it there’s a new wrinkle. Also, compared to #BoTW I have barely any items. Always using everything.

I'm not enjoying #ToTK as much as #botw Too much puzzle platforming for my liking.

After playing #TearsoftheKingdom for however many weeks it's been, I have to say, this game isn't fun. It feels like work. I spend more time crafting stupid things than I do actually exploring or progressing the story line. This game isn't for casual gamers or anyone who enjoys the faintest hint of a plot that makes sense. #BotW was an amazing game and I think balanced the exploration and side quests with the main plot to really great effect. #TotK took an unintended game mechanic fans used on BOTW and made it a core mechanic of the game, not realizing that this game is almost unapproachable to anyone who didn't spend hundreds of hours playing BotW. Hell, I put in over 400 hours to BotW and I still feel like I'm being forced to work in the Zoanite mines of Death Mountain.

I'd like to hear from #totk players that haven't used the various dup glitches. Me and all my circle have used them, some more extensively then others (I drew the line at getting the tutorial master sword but not crashing Hyrule's economy)

What really kept me from enjoying #botw was the rupee grind. Now I can just focus on playing the rest of the game.

This @arstechnica article by @KyleOrl comes damn close to nailing exactly how I've been feeling about #BotW since I finally finished it a few weeks ago - after defeating Gannon, I wish there was a way to continue to adventure throughout Hyrule without the castle remaining a ruin. I wish I could just BE in that place.

#botw update, I got the Ex Horse Amor and my horse is actually useful now that I can get it to teleport to me. I also decided to unlock all the towers, and I've only two left, both inaccessible right now (due to sandstorm and death volcano).

So I've just arrived to Gerudo Town and as a trans guy I enjoy not being let in because I'm not a woman. However, the whole act here is going to be pretty transphobic unfortunately.

I finally defeated Ganon after freeing the four divine beasts. #Zelda #BOTW has been one of the most beautiful and enjoyable games I’ve ever played. The sense of freedom and adventure has been like no other. I’d happily play another 70+ hours, but for now, I’m eager to move on to #TOTK.

No idea why my brain has kept going with this game this time, just got the Master Sword though and went back and punched the Guardian on the tutorial Island Plateau for the sweet justice.

Now I guess we'll try and defeat the second divine beast. Not sure how possible it'll be with only one point in Stamina.

Started #TOTK last night, but tinkered around for an hour or so in my last pre-Ganon #BOTW save state beforehand. Was a good idea - I’d emptied most of BOTW out of my mental cache in the last 3-5 years so it was great to be reminded of all the little feelings and textures (figurative as well as literal lol) it engendered.

Also a brief remembrance of the world map, so once I presumably leave Tutorial Plateau 2.0 I can see whether/how they altered it.

I've played #BreathOfTheWild and I'm now poking around #TearsOfTheKingdom and I have thoughts.

#TotK is very much #BotW 2 doubling down on design choices for better and worse. I like some, hate others. Weapon durability is a dead horse at this point (hate it BTW).

I am blown away by engineering making TotK run as well as it does on #Switch, but it's infuriating and disappointing just how limiting the platform is. CEMU & Yuzu deliver a much better experience. Just Nintendo things innit...

Stabled horses are carried over to TOTK if you stabled them in BOTW. You won't need to go catching a new horse.

I can't put my finger on it yet but sometimes I have a great time with #totk and other times I really don't enjoy it, hopped on for a quick 30 minute session and felt like I had a bunch of chores to do, but didn't feel that way in #botw 🤔😔

@viticci the crazy thing is I am enjoying this way more that #BotW. I didn’t even finish BotW. Something didn’t feel right with it to me. But everything they have added/changed here makes it feel so much better and now I am loving #TotK.

So it took the release of #TotK for me to *finally* go back and actually finish the main quest in #BotW. It's a nice ending! Now for the next game...

For some reason my brain is wired up so that I find it more gratifying to find *the* correct solution to a puzzle than *a* correct solution to a puzzle. Convergent thinking, not divergent thinking.

This is I think part of why #BOTW never felt fully immersive to me, in a way, like I was always just hacking through it and scraping by.

It seems like #TearsOfTheKingdom will only be more like this. I’m enjoying it, but there’s a deliberate messiness to it that I just don’t love.

Is there a term for someone procrastinating on going to Hyrule Castle in #Zelda #BOTW?

I don’t even know what I need but I’m currently farming resources to get all my armor to four stars.

Having the laziest of Sundays hunting down Korok seeds in #BotW. The 25 in Hyrule Castle are annoying because of the flying Guardians everywhere, but I did get to chain some Flurry Rush attacks on a Lynel. So that was fun!

I'm ridiculously excited about Tears of the Kingdom, and this mod dropping the month before is a great way to revisit Hyrule before it changes.
