It's useful to notice that shallow imitation in art or "kitsch" will also borrow the terms used to describe what it imitates. This includes "fine art" - as a non-native English speaker and US resident, I had to look up the definition of "fine art" because it seemed to be applied only to a certain style of paintings in a commercial context. None of what I consider interesting art would be labeled as "fine art". It was my surprise to find out it was defined as an equivalent of the French term "beaux-arts" which is rarely used in French and refers to art for the sake of it as opposed to decorating functional objects (decorative arts, "arts décoratifs"). I've grown allergic to the term "fine art" just like I've always been allergic to the brand of art it refers to today. I won't use the term "kitsch" to label the work of others because it's pretentious and mean but I will also not use the term "fine art" to describe what I do.

It's usually a branding mistake to make stickers that don't include a searchable reference to what the heck the sticker is promoting. For example: it took me about fifteen minutes to figure out that these stickers were promoting Juju. Even Google Lens, tineye, etc didn't help--if I hadn't eventually found a fellow attendee (hi Jeremy!) who recognized it on sight, it would still be a mystery.

Also, "criticism is just a form of caring" is not really true. Criticism from people with influence can shift perspectives and change the sentiment even against the might of the brand's media muscle. Bud Light's US saga is a good example. Even 'engineering' debate—through marketing—that is purposeful to the brand requires creativity

3. The 'G' in Parle-G refers to 'Gluco' or 'Glucose', which made sense for the biscuit, which was called 'Parle Gluco' until 1985. Parle rebranded the brand to Parle-G in the mid-1980s, and an eventual campaign reframed the 'G' as 'genius'. But the biscuit uses sugar syrup instead of glucose, which doesn't make any contextual sense of atta.
I can totally understand a normal 'Parle' branded atta, but 'Parle-G' branding for atta seems strange.

I know rebranding is a WHOLE THING - been through it for my institution before - but my older self just rolls my eyes at some of the agency-speak that goes along with it.
That said, I like the use of this new mark on big signage and the active movement on gifs and video, but I think it’s a hard read when small for social icons, footer logos, etc.
Lesley recently shared a really fun anecdote about how she became weirdly synonymous with pizza. I love these stories, and it's a pretty interesting case study for the "wacky" TLDs. I didn't remember her plugin's name, but I did remember that she was somehow associated with Pizza.
