TIPPER - Broken Soul Jamboree
Tipper's sonic tricks are starting to sound a little stock, so I'm glad he took another step outside his usual #NuSkool #Breaks and #GlitchHop sound here. I guess Dave wanted some of that Real Musician cred' too, what with all the Real Instruments from across the globe used in this album.
When I see 'Jamboree' in the title tho', I expect something more jubilant than this. Music's fine, in a #Downtempo Shpongle sort of way, but comes off Very Self-Serious overall.
TIPPER - Tertiary Noise
Something I didn't realize: this and 'Wobble Factor' both have standard albums and a DJ mix of them. Not sure if listening to 'Wobble' on a track-to-track basis would have improved it much, but seeing as how both sets are some 25 minutes shorter than the LP versions, figured I'd give this one the full-length go-around.
And yeah, it's very tracky, Tipper going back to #NuSkool #Breaks with his usual assortment of wiggly-squiggly sound effects. There was a #Dubstep, tho'.

TIPPER - Relish The Trough
Huh, I guess #NuSkool wasn't as dead as I thought. Sure, its end was nigh, but Dave ain't letting the #Breaks scene go down without some fight.
Funny enough, this feels older-school than NuSkool, not quite the bass-heavy tear-out style that would come to dominate the genre. More like the transitional period between it and #ChemicalBreaks before it. The bouncy #BreakBeat, the skippity effects and basslines, the touches of #acid... OMG! This is an Überzone album!

Well this is a surprise, but also not? I'm sure folks in the #Breaks scene were caught off guard by Dave doing a completely #Downtempo album, and good on him bucking convention. I'm sure he was feeling #NuSkool was getting stale as the #00s rolled on (because it was).
So going full #TripHop is an interesting wrinkle, sprinkling just enough #Glitch and #IDM touches that I'm sure wow'd purist breakbeat boys. Some of those drippy sounds tho', remind me of #PsyTrance wibble.

Skipping the first album, since I've done a review of it. Plus, it ain't available on streaming, so...
We're definitely in peak #NuSkool #Breaks era with this. Not as adventurous as his debut, but that's a good thing. I found Dave at times over-reached with his #Glitch and #IDM indulgences before, whereas here they're much more restrained and subtle. Finely produced for efficiency rather than showing off.
Also, does that closer ever go BoC-like.

I've already reviewed a version of this, but not this version, so I'm including it here. Yay!
While the first two Fatboy albums were clearly capitalizing on hot trends (#Acid #Breaks and #BigBeat, mostly), this one sees Mr. Cook indulging in more of the various influences that defined his musical palette. And I'm of the opinion it's all the more greater for it, fully fleshed-out songs and strong album flow. His best record, maybe ever?

This was my introduction to Norman Cook, though like Hell I had any clue of that. All I knew off two singles was this was some really corny yet surprisingly charming #Latin-influenced #Eurodance act.
And while those *are* the best cuts, you can hear germinations of Fatboy Slim #Breaks and #Acid too. Also, #ProgressiveHouse, really!? Well, it was popular at the time.
defie is an o.g. #graffiti writer and #dj from the san francisco bay area.
in 2020, he released a #mixtape, titled "uncensored memorandum", which sounds like a mixtape you would have gotten from peanut butter wolf or #dj shadow in the 90s so they could play at your hip establishment.
it's a flavorful offering -- starting as an early 90s bonus #beat blend a la mastermix, big beat, or fever label records -- which then moves onto a fabulous "super duck #breaks" style.. then grooves.. boogie.. ice t.. and beyond!
earlier this month the label dropped a limited edition vinyl, with variant #art covers by defie and other graf heads.. .
had to cop it and my copy arrived the other day!

BEATS INTERNATIONAL - Excursion On The Version
Another Norman record that's not available for regular streaming (yet the #Breaks sampler is!?), but I'm unsurprised. This album's not as good as the first. There's some charm in all the sunny #Reggae #House and Jamaican vibes, but where's the genre diversity gone? Jettisoned after trying to quickly capitalize on the hit singles, I wager.
I suspect even Mr. Cook realized this was a creative dead-end, dumping the project after this in favor of...?
NORMAN COOK - All-Star Breakbeats Volume 1
Not really an album, but a sample pack of various #Breaks, signed and approved by the chap with that number one hit with Beats International. It got that #Electro! It got that #Funk! It got that #HipHop! It got that... whoa, don't think I've ever heard a break from Tears For Fears' "Shout" before.
Yeah, anyone with any familiarity with #Breakbeat in the #80s and #90s will have heard most of these. Fun for DJs, but useless as a streaming experience.

Microsoft’s #Human Factors Lab measured the #brainactivity of 14 individuals.
For those *with #breaks* b/w meetings:
- Their brains were steady and experienced "coolness."
For those *without breaks* b/w meetings
- Their #stress increased with time, suggesting a "buildup of stress."
