The UK's #RAAC #buildings crisis really looks like the results of a period when 'systems built' facilities were all the rage in the public sector (and more widely).

In the 1970s, prefabricated buildings seemed to offer the solution to assembling functional buildings.

Of course, there were two problems:

a. They were never meant to last forever & so without maintenance & component renewal a crisis of stability was always going to happen;

b. in many cases they were badly constructed anyway!

well, well, well, the majority of #schools that are effects by the #RAAC #buildings crisis are in #Tory constituencies - some might see this as 'chickens coming home to roost' after over a decade of #education defunding.

A cynic might add, that it was only after this distribution become clear did the #tories 'spring into action'... as many have already suggested here, no doubt slightly delayed while they figured out how to channel the repair funds to their mates!

This view was from our cruise ship as we made our way to the Pier in Brooklyn. One World Trade Center (aka One WTC or Freedom Tower) is the main building of the new World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City. The building is 1,776 feet tall and opened in late 2014. The height of the building was done on purpose to refer to the year the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Ivory and coral colors along with it's thin shape make it especially interesting and inviting to the eye. I took the photo from the steps of the Sacre -Coeur, in Montmartre neighborhood of Paris. New #buildings , #building extensions, paintwork, facades, shop windows, even new public benches and other street furniture is often in one shade of grey, at least here in the Netherlands (the photo was taken near me). Loving this block of flats in Darmstadt, Germany. Not just for the sloping roof garden, but the whole approach with onion domes and the painted lines and individually designed windows that create a sense of irregularity.

It's called Waldspirale ("forest spiral") and was designed by an Austrian artist, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who had a strong dislike for straight lines.

Block of flats in a spiral shape, starting with a single storey at one end and peaking at 12 storeys. Several onion domes in distinct colours provide additional eccentricity. The roof garden slopes steadily up to the top of the building and features mature trees that create a sense of woodland in this high level urban space.
