I’m going to attempt #Pie crust again soon, Insha Allah.
I’ve never been able to make it work on my own, but I haven’t tried since the advent of YouTube. I see some #OliveOil crust videos, which would be the most economical version here in #Spain. I won’t touch #Soy oil and I’ll attempt #Butter only if the oil crust goes well.
My mother was an excellent baker and would gladly have conveyed everything she knew, but I wasn’t that into pie when I was a kid. I learn manual skills best hands-on with an expert available in person, so I missed an opportunity.
There’s a moral here: don’t wait too long to ask your parents to help you learn or understand things they’re expert in or about which they possess unique knowledge.
I have spent some of today learning about the 2011 #Norwegian "butter panic".

500gr strong bread flour
225gr (leek) water
13 gr fresh yeast
10gr salt
200gr #leek
150gr dried #cranberries.
Method:
Mix and knead all ingredients
Form into a ball and rest for an hour
Shape into its final form, score & proof for 52 minutes
Bake for 35 minutes on an oven tray in a preheated oven at 200°C/392°F.
It really tastes great. You can't see the leek but you can taste it; I'd boiled them with some #butter the day before.

It really helps to leave the cream out at room temperature for a few hours. The time it took to churn 300ml of cold cream in butter was about 30 mins. It was hard work. The time to churn 300ml of cream that had sat at room temperature for about 3hours was 10minutes with minimal effort. Also good to know if you're trying to make whipped cream.
Don't overchurn it. My previous attempts made butter that was very hard. It was still butter, but it wasn't very spreadable, and not just in a normal butter way. Even if you left it out of the fridge and tried to spread it onto warm toast it crumbled more than spread. This time I stopped churning as soon as the lumps of butter formed and as such it feels a lot less stiff and firm.
We'll see how it spreads vs how long it lasts.
