The Manhattan skyline is reflected in the water of The Lake on a hazy autumn day, Central Park.

We arrived in New York City late in the day, too late to do much other than meet up with family, get a bite to eat, and head back to the hotel. We stayed on the Upper West Side, more or less to the west of the Natural History Museum, and thus a short walk from Central Park. So the next morning — after coffee, of course! — we headed that way to walk and do a bit of photography. Spent the day in #NYC. Ate my sandwich and watched skaters at #BryantPark. Visted a few bookstores and braved chilly wind in #CentralPark. Had #Lebanese cuisine for dinner. Attended a lecture on Climate Change and the NYC water supply at the #NewYorkHistoricalSociety . Even rode the subway for the first time in many years. A very long ride home on #MetroNorth reminded me of when I used to do this every day. Really enjoyed myself, I really should get out for an adventure more often.

The people who bike laps around #ProspectPark and #CentralPark are really on to something. Never thought I’d be that person, but I just rode several laps around Prospect Park this evening and it’s lovely. The #Fall smells of leaves and #campfires fill the crisp air. Best of all you can ride continuously without having to deal with a single #car. Kicking myself for not doing this more often.

At the Shakespeare Garden, there were a few birders patiently waiting for #RubyThroatedHummingbirds to show up, and I was happy to snap a mediocre photo of this beautiful birbette.

But I also had a great view of an #ArburCork tree that had a few nice borbs, including a #YellowBelliedFlycatcher and a #capemaywarbler

OK, just for fun, let's do reverse chronological order. It sometimes happens that the last #borb you see is the most special. Well, that's very subjective, but that's what happened today.

At the end of the afternoon, after spending some time with some super expert birders on a raptor watch at Belvedere Castle, I strolled along the south path of the Turtle Pond and found, much to my surprise, a #Blackburnian #Warbler.

One of my favorite things about #CentralPark is the Adopt-A-Bench program. Patrons commission plaques to help maintain park upkeep. When I used to work closer to the park, I'd often stroll through and note the messages. A melancholic joy. It's been years, but I was in the park for a bit yesterday and sat a spell on these two benches. Still melancholic. And I confess that joy was hard to muster. Absolutely fantastic #SpringMigration day of #Birding #CentralPark today! Had 7 first-of-season #birds: Blue-winged Warbler, Worm-eating Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Scarlet Tanager, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Gray-cheeked Thrush.

My favorites were the Blue-winged Warblers. There were several of them in the vicinity of the Azalea Pond, all calling noisily, making them relatively easy to spot. #NaturePhotography
