I have questions.
For starters, why is the Deployment Psychology Center at Uniformed Services University giving us an article on the number of goats kept at Fort Polk? Number of chickens too.

I mean, cool and all. If this was part of an in-patient mental health recovery program on base I might get it. Pet a goat, lower your PTSD. Something like that. But nope.

So I am new to Beige Party, but not new to the Fediverse. I decided it would be prudent to have a 2nd account for when my other instance is going through “shenanigans.” But I also thought it would be nice to have a place, on this here #Mastodon, where I could maybe have a little respite from the overwhelming seriousness of life. So this account will be about silliness and #whimsy and #art and #knitting socks and #crocheting colorful blankets and planting a #NativeGarden and #BloomScrolling and favorite #tv shows and #movies and #writing and the poetry of #SongLyrics.
I live in the #Midwest with my husband and my son in a #MidCentury house where we desperately run to fix the breaking or broken or falling apart thing before the next thing breaks or falls apart. (We have grand plans for this house which includes #chickens and gardens and #compost heaps, but so far the only thing we’ve done is paint the den chartreuse.)

The newbie chickens still got a lot to learn about where those eggs go.
There's perfectly fine nesting boxes in the coop! Middle of the path to the compost heap is probably not a good place, but at least easier to retrieve than behind the shed in a bunch of nettles.
The broody chicken was placed on top of the coop run today. She didn't notice me till I pulled on her tail a bit. This one is typical meanness. One of the other two I recently broke was a biter, the other is kind of friendly and just wants to sit on eggs, get a snack, and maybe a scratch under the beak.
Went to the park today and took some poultry pics. Some of them were in their enclosure, others roamed around freely.
It impressed me how close the ones in the first and third pic let me get to them to take their picture

Found where our teen #chickens are hanging out during the day. Very old apple tree got hit by lightning a couple of years back and has been scraping by nearly horizontal ever since, they like the low branches and rotting apples. Bonus pic of their mom with her next batch- 2 day old peepers.
Chickens are the most surprisingly pleasant part of #homestead life.

I’m staying on a farm in Devon for a few days, & these are today’s harvest from the coop of rescued former battery birds, now living their best lives over wild acres, orchards and riverbanks. I had no idea until today that hens could lay blue or green. I love how inscrutably smooth and perfect they are; spectacular & blissfully irreducible. ❤️

Hi! I'm Adam. I recently drifted into the Fediverse with the Great #RedditMigration of July 2023. I've already dabbled with Mastodon and kBin. Now I'm dipping my toes into Calkey.
I'm originally from #Iowa but live in #Wisconsin now. Like, far #northernwisconsin.
My wife and I have a tiny farm where we have a small #garden and are mob-ruled by our flock of #chickens, #ducks, and #geese. We've also employed the help of the tiniest herd of tiny Nigerian Dwarf #goats to help us fight back some of the invasive honeysuckle and buckthorn that seems to have taken over our little homestead.
We also have two #cats, two #dogs, and a very independent, "wild" #rabbit that my wife actually rescued from a food bank garden.
