Who remembers these? This is my second attempt at a 90's keychain lizard. I haven't made them since the 4th or 5th grade. I had string issues with the first one and it looked messy and didn't have a tail. I think my second attempt is much better. I made this one for my mom using her favorite colors. This is definitely an anxiety killing activity.

I mentioned a couple of days ago that in the early 60s, my family lived on the Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan. As I said we lived on the third floor. The stairway was of polished stone as were the banisters. When going down, I would lay my upper body on the banister and slide, it was the quickest way down.

I had a pogo stick back then and was pretty good. Well ... I couldn't do back flips on the pogo stick or anything like that, but I could and did pogo up and down the stairs ... without a helmet ... madness. Do know what? I don't think that they even made bicycle helmets back then.

In those days, my favorite comic was Dennis the Menace, later in life I discovered Calvin and Hobbes.

During the early 1960s, my family lived in Yokosuka, Japan on the US Naval base. We lived in a small three floor apartment building on the third floor.

I recall parts of one day, I was maybe eight or nine years old. I went to the seawall and collected various small mollusks, clams, mussels, and what have you. Well, I took them home where my mother told me to get rid of them, so I did.

On the second floor, there was a laundry room that faced the front of the building overlooking the flat entranceway cover. The windows were usually open because back then, AC was something for the future. Well, instead of walking back to the seawall, I dumped my catch out the window. After a day or so, the sweet smell of decomposing mollusks became noticeable. Needless to say, I was in trouble.

When I was a kid in the 90s and early 00s, for some reason I had a several year period where I was obsessed with Gilligan's Island. I had a Gilligan-themed bedroom complete with my bed made into a "hut". I made cups out of coconuts. I went as Jonas "The Skipper" Grumby for Halloween. I had a personalized autographed photo from Bob Denver.

For me, Memorial Day has always been about honoring the dead. From my childhood, I’ve always associated this day with peonies, paper poppies, trips to cemeteries and patriotism. I grew up in a bubble, but I didn’t know how much of a bubble it was until I got older.

This is one of two murals located inside a neighborhood park. The mural was commissioned and organized by a local dad. He went through the process of securing funds, maneuvering Chicago park permits and recruited local families whose kiddos are featured in the murals. When you're a parent - children are the focus of your day. They're the jumping, swinging, playful clock that wakes you up in the morning and the lullaby you sing to sleep at night. As we raise our children, we do so with the knowledge that their tomorrow is a canvas of their own creation and dreams.
