Google Chrome is definitely the most hostile piece of software I have installed on my computer. The changes Google keeps on making to it, just keeps on messing up my workflow. The Recent Searches garbage in Omnibox is the most annoying one these days. Blocks access to bookmarks.

So the problem is not #firefox. As in #chrome you would also not be able to change that shortcut.
Under #gnome / #xfce4 (and most probably other desktop managers as well) you can remap CTRL-W.
- assign the CTRL-W as custom shortcut (in the keyboard settings) to execute for example `/usr/bin/true`
- that way it will not close a tab / file in Firefox, Chrome, Gedit (that are the ones I have tested)

So after some experimentation for a few days I've come to the conclusion that on #Android, #Firefox is the best mobile browser for me. It has better privacy features and uBlock Origin is actually available for the mobile version of the browser. I tried both #Chrome and #Chromium. Chromium won't play videos and, Brave and Chrome just have too much going on out of the box and Chrome is too tied in with everything Google.

Not sure if it's specifically a #Bromite thing or all #Chrome-based mobile browsers, but one negative thing I've noticed when using Bromite on a tablet is not being able to view open tabs like you could on a phone.
On a phone, there's a square icon with a number in it. That number shows how many tabs are open. You press that, and get shown thumbnails of your tabs.
There's none of that in the tablet version. You get to have individual windows, and see how many tabs are open in each tab. Nothing more than that. You have to swipe horizontally to navigate your tabs.
If it's meant to be more like as if you're on a desktop, well, I guess that's one way to do it!
#Idea: A #Chrome extension which detects any `<skewer-case />` elements on a web page which are _not_ upgraded web components and logs them to the console (maybe after a 3 second timeout for lazy loading).
Might be a useful debugging tool for simple typos of tag names. I find myself making that mistake all the time and it's frustrating because there is fundamentally no error from it, just nothing happens.

So I changed back to Chromium on Linux, found an apt version that works better.
Firefox has all kinds of quirks that I'm not very fond of, it's more strict about extension policies and scripts so most of my FF extensions are not working properly.
I'm also so used to Chrome DevTools that I can't cope with Firefox tools.
I know Google wants to track me, but I have loads of network apps that prevent it, like AdGuard Home, VPN, etc.
Dig deeper's article about browsers is top notch, TL;DR; No browser is good. Trust me, I've tried them all.

Fun fact I learned today: if you go to the Advanced tab and check the "Passwords and other sign-in data" box when clearing browsing data in #Chrome on #macOS then you'll blow away all your macOS Chrome #passkeys. And since macOS Chrome creates "device-bound passkeys" (they won't ever sync to anywhere) there's no way to recover them 🙃
The silver lining is that this will NOT happen if you only use the Basic tab to clear your browsing data.
