Currently playing around with #earthly, trying to figure out if I want to use it as build system for my gitops repository.
On one hand it's quite cool, the syntax feels fine, like a mixture of Dockerfiles and Makefiles.
But on the other hand they put a whole lot of cloud stuff in there and the application has a hard time not phoning home. Also there are still some weird things going on (probably due to caching) where ifs in combination with loops and variables have a hard time.

The purpose of this little tool is to minimize the effort and number of steps necessary to #commit changes to Power BI #reports and #datasets into a proper #VersionControl system like #GitHub, #AzureDevOps, etc.

Part of our DNS deployment CI/CD pipeline parses a config file & generates Terraform HCL (which is later planned, saved & deployed).
It always bugged me how slow this step was - consistently ~2 minutes.
I had a bit of free time today so refactored it to use GNU parallel (which we also use for post-deploy tests). It now takes ~1/4 the time. Pleased with that.
I have a Google Cloud Build-based CI/CD which is triggered from a GitHub repo - it runs tests then publishes to npm.
Everything works fine except when Dependabot creates a PR because npm publish fails because the package version isn't updated.
Anyone got a way to fix this? It's not the end of the world but feels like it should be automate-able.

Okay, this is the single most useful Github Action I've ever come across: https://github.com/github/combine-prs
It takes multiple PRs, e.g., those from dependabot, and combines them into one big PR.
Feature branch: delete yarn.lock, yarn install && yarn run test - tests fail
Master/main: rm -rf node_modules && yarn install & yarn run test - ONE test fails
CI: tests pass

I might be biased and opinionated, but I say CI/CD should be one of the first steps of a project.
Even start by deploying a Hello World nginx app to the infrastructre of your choice. You can run tests on it, monitor the uptime and SLO (99.999% "Hello World" is displayed).
If you adapt from this starting point, it is easier to build the system that you are building.
So often #cicd is tacked on towards the middle, or even the end, of a project. And the cost of this mistake is massive.
Any k8s devs tried gopaddle before? Sounds cool.

Does anyone know if it's possible to prevent overlapping/concurrent GitHub Dependabot Pull Requests being created? That fails every time if your build/tests use e.g. Terraform.

Hi Harri, and thank you for your tip. I had a look at #lxd and #lxc yesterday and I really like it. It is fast and not too complicated to handle. Will check out #Multipass later this week.
For now, I'm trying to achieve an unattended setup using the #libvirt labrary and virt-install on ubuntu servers. That takes still a lot of learrning and trial and error, but at the end, it will allow me to have a scripted setup towards a homebrew #CICD pipeline.

Hi Stevan (edit). Thank you, and yes, the #libvirt library is very powerful. It is used broadly in many of the #virtualization stacks around.
Managing the #kvm and #qemu vms on the server is not the way to go anyway. Using #multipass or #openstack would be the way to go, I guess.
I'm actually building unattended setups for the servers I need for my homebrew #CICD pipeline. Using virt-install on #ubuntu allows me to have a scripted process to set up the servers as vms on one VPS.
For the #tech people. I've been setting up these landing page #websites using #Hugo and love it to death. Being able to use Markdown to generate static sites, then using gitlab pages and gitlab CI to automatically build and deploy the site is incredible. I don't have to worry about hosting, CSS, Javascript, or anything. Easy themes and markdown.
