Japanese Puffer Fish Mating Ritual: "White-spotted pufferfish - known for its unique and complex courtship display which involves creating large, geometric circles -similar to CROP circles in the sandfloors off the Japanese coast. The circles are constructed to attract females for copulation. It takes the puffer 7-9 days working pretty much 24 hours a day to finish his project! Once completed, males must maintain their circles in order to attract a mate. A female will evaluate the structure and choose to mate with the male who creates the most perfect structure.

First noticed by divers in 1995, it was not discovered that they were created by white-spotted pufferfish until 2013 when the species was discovered in the Ryukyu Islands. They are thought to be the only species of their kind to engage in this type of mating ritual."

We pulled some iris "silvery" Bernstein "amber" tubing and I phosphoric acid dust coated one of them with 4500 white phosphor to make this #hydration #halo ! I'm after the elusive and paradoxical #brown #light #neon the halo certainly helped with water chugs- we got 26 late night #partiers to simultaneously chug a glass of #water ! Success! My coating is getting not too bad- still a little speckly, but even enough on this one.

this #b3d #blender3d render was made in 2021 during an early phase of #blender #Geometrynodes . Times were simpler back then, we had less nodes :)
This is basically a circle made from points along a cirlce and loads of circles instanced along those points to make a #torus (or better known as donut to blender users) and more circles instanced on the points on that and so on and then the last iteration turned into #geometry with #circle form.

Another thing from last year--since I've been participating in Japanese places a while (including web events), it was basically time to create a "circle" for myself.

The name comes from a song by Alphaville, but the Japanese version is wordplay--hence the furigana to make sure the word play comes through.

I selected these specific kanji because I liked the double meaning there as well. (Should be read "do-ri-mu") If you want a "translation", it means "(A) dream of earth and plum." :party_parrot:​ Fancy!

So far none of my JP friends say it's bad Japanese, so I think I must have done alright :cry_thumbsup:​
