Hot water kettle is acting up so I opened it. The ON lever (not shown) levers itself and another hinged bit of plastic, that's pressing down on the top of electrical contacts and it all locks into place. BUT … if it moves off the base, a little pin inside pops up and the levers unlock. If a bit of bi-metal gets too hot from steam coming down handle, it trips the levers. And there's another bi-metal bit tucked where I can't quit see it which probably does the same.
The tiny blue wires are for two LEDs that shine into the end of a plastic semi-circle going around base of pot for cool, blue illumination! All very clever and a lot of injection molding.
