You can actually mess with the #Nuke GUI a lot using Qt. The blog of Erwan Leroy (https://erwanleroy.com/blog/) shows you how: overlay widgets onto the node graph, add custom widgets as knobs to Nuke nodes... wow!

I especially like his "scale tree" feature and it's quite easy to just use parts of his toolset in your pipeline. Its code is on github (https://github.com/herronelou/nuke_nodegraph_utils/tree/main/node_graph_utils)

A dragon model winding around an obelisk viewed from the front. The dragon and the obelisk have glowing wireframes around their bodies of solid black. The dragons' eyes are glowing white and smoke emits from them and flows to the back. In the back there's a synthwave sun, and the wireframes colors are also held in a synthwave style.

All that has a lot of postprocessing applied, including scanlines, and it has very carefully picked amounts of noise. The sun has a bloom colored different from it itself, and it also has very aggressive chromatic abberation. The entire render has slight chromatic abberation as well.

found the old render of my delivery drone before I re-composited it

I was pretty chuffed with it back in the day but now I feel like its barely visible in the frame

it's amazing what a little lighting and compositing can do to the same model, I definitely feel that I underestimated the impact of those last few steps when I was first learning blender

still a lot to learn but I'm pretty happy with how far I've come already

One of my pet peeves in #compositing is glow and how to make it look real.

Here are stills from animated shows I've posted about recently. #BubblegumCrisis is from the 1980s and its glow effects look 🌟 amazing. I assume they made animation like everybody else back then: photograph each painted cel on film. Did they shine light through mattes and do double exposures? I honestly don't know.
#VoxMachina's glow on the other hand... meh. It's just like an outline or a preset.

Manual #compositing: I use this *heavily*. Just simply generate two entirely different things, composite them lazily together, then use #img2img to reunify them into a cogent whole.

Loopback: use this occasionally, but not often. Instead of running img2img (with or without a mask) a single time with a large denoising factor, run it multiple times in a row with small denoising factors. Somewhat different results.

Shot compositing in Kdenlive. I do a lot of compositing in Blender, but sometimes it's good to do it late in the pipeline, especially when it's a sequence transition. This gives me more freedom in timing, with a small cost in control of the shot alignment (it is a little hard to keep two moving shots lined up properly with each other, without creating some shaking effects). #LunaticsProject # #LunaticsTV #Kdenlive #Compositing
