Sunday #DailyTracks : Updates today , then made the mistake of pulling out an old drawer of disks. Back late 90's early 2000 #ComputerMusic had an early modular softsynth called MASS in its library. The oscillator block had a knob that started at
0 hz and topped out around 20k. I built a rolling surf patch that had the steady deep low roll from Jones beach on a breezy day, the mids of close breakers and the hi wash of surf receding up close, all doing their own temporal scaling. It was magical-

Here's a little video of what I'll do. Some #glitch sounds in there were not intended #oops.
An indulgent smorgasbord of classical, jazz, and #musiqueconcrete with some eccentric discussion sprinkled on top. Most of this album was composed with the use of musical cryptograms and traditional serial methods. I call this "the library album" for the hours of arranging and sequencing on public library computers using #Noteflight and other online programs after my hard drive crashed at home.

Recordings of printers, Windows 95 theme tune, that Taehea Types record, lots of things that sound like cables being unplugged and plugged back in.'
I managed to load the "Jukebox" #BASIC program into my #TRS80.
Using an "Elektrosluch" (https://bit.ly/3qFfbof) and PC speakers, I am able to playback the tunes without an #UHF receiver. It sounds a bit de-tuned. This could come from the electronics of the "Electrosluch" or from a speed-up of the TRS80 under LDOS with more RAM and the #FreHD extension.
For next weekend's lecture performance on #ComputerMusic & #SoundChips I will re-enact a #BASIC program for #TRS80 Model 1 Level II that produces sounds in a nearby radio receiver by just altering the electomagnetic pollution of the computer.
The program was published in: CLOAD, Best of 1978, pp. 31-34.

exporting two tracks as demos - a5 and a6, yes tracks 5 and 6. perhaps soon something comes out. it's all fiddling with various techniques in Ardour - stretching, filtering, pitch shifting... mangling.
Bought myself an extremely scarce book about making music on the Commodore 64. I don’t intend to start coding SID tunes etc, but as a lifelong musician and someone who adored my Commodore 64 computer back in the day I’m fascinated by the process and want to learn more. With the postal strikes the book may well arrive after Christmas. But I’ll get it sometime.

I'm Matt, an artist and musician based in Toronto/Tkaronto. I work in and around computation, thinking about its histories, politics, culture, and computation-as-material. My main efforts right now are around computational poetics, expanded sculpture, and net art. I believe computers could be something different in the world, and try to embody that in my work and life.
I make music mainly as New Tendencies, but sometimes under other names and used to play in a number of punk/post-punk bands in addition to my more experimental/electronic/computer music and sound art. I also have a very very small label/press called <blink>.
I live with my partner of over 20 years and a 10 year old Bengal cat named Iggy (because she's a real wild child).
My online life goes back to around 1992 when I started calling BBS's, and running one... then soon after getting an internet connection and basically living on IRC where I got into the demo/tracker scene and started making computer music.
Also love sci-fi, video games, Hackers (1995), bad reality tv, cocktails...

i'm derek, he/him. currently in central california and have lived in new york for a bit too
originally went through #music school up through #dma (lol i'd be surprised if that hashtag actually worked and referred to doctor of musical arts) studying #percussion with aspirations of being a "new music" percussionist but didn't stick the landing in music academia. i got a #math degree somewhere along the way and had been getting heavily into #computermusic and #creativecoding sorts of things working at a media lab during the dma so when covid, hit decided to go back to (online) grad school studying computer science. things i'm really into studying cs-wise are #ai/#ml things (more leaning on the ai-side but we'll see) and "soft-cs"/"extra-cs" sorta intersectional things like #hci and #education and starting to read about #computationalcreativity and other things. not sure where my cs studies will go yet but it'd be nice be able to research ai things more. also, i'm really into #foss / #linux sorta things.
other things i'm into are anime and manga (mostly iyashikei, mecha, and ikuhara things), video games, riichi mahjong, animals (mostly cats, sea otters and puffins), stars are cool, and also vast desolate expanses.
