During the First World War (1914–1918), the presence of Thérèse of the Child Jesus in the trenches was extraordinarily tangible. The voluminous mail from that period asks for her support during the war. Many ex-voto offerings were sent to the Carmelite nuns of Lisieux as tokens of gratitude from soldiers and their families.
The official website of the Archives of the Carmel of Lisieux offers a sample of mail received from the front line that includes a selection of illustrated letters, postcards, and holy cards, as well as ex-voto offerings from grateful soldiers.
This banner was offered to “Little Sister Thérèse” in 1914 by “Grateful French Canadians” from Salem, Massachusetts, thankful for her intervention during the 1st World War
This sample letter comes from Corporal Charles Gérard, who writes from active duty with the French army:
Drawn from the depths of the abyss of disbelief, I’m slowly journeying towards faith. Intensely aware of my own indigence, I one day came across Story of a Soul, which the chaplain at our camp lent to me. And there I read that there is one road, and one joy, which is called holy joy, and that even simple souls can follow it and won’t go astray. Sister Thérèse, the humble wildflower, emboldened me and made me see that Jesus loved the humble in a very special way. She instills courage within me and, with her, I wait and hope… she has completed my conversion. When I have the honor of going to fight, I would like Sister Thérèse – henceforth my patron saint – to accompany me. I will take her with me in my heart and in my head but I would like a flower from her grave to be placed in my wallet, against my heart.

Here's a kind of courage I don't often see recognised.
Lindy Butcher fosters orphaned baby wombats, usually found in the pouch of a mother wombat that's been killed by a car. These "pouch babies" are essentially premature, and need highly skilled, labour intensive round the clock care.
Lindy is realistic about the fact that each tiny baby she takes on is incredibly fragile and might die, but still loves each one tenderly, gently, with respect and humour and awe at their individual beauty.
That's courage. To love despite the risk of grief.
The link goes to an Instagram video where she shows one of the newest babies, who has just opened his eyes. She's been wearing him next to her body. She says:
"I'm never not surprised and delighted when these tiny babies open their eyes."

Maybe in the future we will even be able to develop a phone port to interface with all the consumer and professional audio equipment that's already on the market, and cheaper than the wireless versions we have to put up with now, due to phones' limited space to accommodate such technology.
But imagine: not worrying about whether you charged everything, using less battery because we skip Bluetooth, and better for the environment because they won't be obsolete in 3 years due to battery degradation. And harder to lose!
I propose we call it Audio Port, and industry insiders tell me such technology could even be made waterproof, and occupate negligible amounts of space as well!
The future truly looks bright.
