I’ve been a little busy this month, because I traveled to Japan to visit my kid there (and greet some new blog followers there, hi folks). I made her a Pikachu bucket hat before I left, from a pattern by chikuchikutianqingre, using leftover denim and some quilting cotton scraps I got from Buy Nothing. I made myself a big pumpkiny wool hat on the trip; started it on the plane over, and finished it in time to wear on my last day in town. Early in the month, I remade a linen-blend pinafore dress into a top (preserving the pockets, using the lining for the sleeves, adding embellishments at the neckline and hem, and a silk panel across the chest), and dyed the whole thing a deep bricky red. (This might be a preview of my 2024 Fun-a-Day project–still ruminating about that.) Will write up the zipcode adventure Jake and I finished in early November as a separate post. No new chalk since the last haunted portrait on Dia de los Muertos (but that was fun)–will try to fit in something for December, if the weather allows. Read books, wrote articles for Wikipedia, and otherwise survived the month. Onward.

Zwischenstand vom 2. gestickten Hexie für den #QuiltAsYouGo-Quilt. Bin eigentlich schon etwas weiter und habe das Fläschchen noch mit Glasperlen bestickt, aber ich komme gerade nur selten zum Sticken und das Foto war schon gemacht. 😅
Ich sticke hier auf handgesponnenem, handgewebtem Bauernleinen, das ich vor 10 Jahren mal geschenkt bekam. Eine Bekannte hatte das Leinen bei ihrem Partner im Holzschuppen gefunden und wusste, dass ich Reenactment mache. Es war voller Stockflecken, ich habe es mehrfach in der Kochwäsche durchgewaschen und danach gebügelt - kleinste Fleckchen sind noch übrig. Ich finde, die geben aber durchaus Charakter.
Das grüne Nadelkissen auf dem Stickrahmen ist übrigens so ein Zwischendrin-Resteverwertungprojekt. Hatte vom Zuschneiden von was anderem ein paar Schnipselchen Quiltvlies übrig und einen Stofffetzen: Gefaltet, zurechtgelegt, festgesteckt, mit ein paar Stichen fixiert und ich hatte ein kleines Nadelkissen to go, um alles Nötige für mein aktuelles Projekt dabei und zu Hand zu haben.

I was pretty pleased since I put it together on short notice!
I'm forever throwing away pairs of tights that have holes in them (no matter how much they say they're "ladder-resistant", it never turns out to be true) but today I decided to look up some options for re-using them and found an absolute ton of great ideas, from hairbands to sachets to freshen the fridge to wrapping paper organisation (great at this time of year!)

Was a good day at the craft bazaar. I sold more than I expected, had a lot of people tell me how beautiful/varied/well made my work was, and was able to network with several people to help me move into the local crafter/vendor community. May get to do this again in another week or two, even. And the memory wire bracelets were a real hit!

I crafted a Xmas-pot for my Mum today, she had that tiny ceramic Christmastree already, I added LED lights, moss and some leftover ornaments and Xmas decoration and glued it onto some styrofoam, that got put into the pot, I really like how it turned out.

Ich sticke gerade schon lägst am nächsten (Spoiler: Es wird ein Bücherstapel 😅), aber das hier ist der erste fertige Hexi für meinen #QuiltAsYouGo-Quilt, der ein Geschenk an mich selbst werden soll. 😅 Er soll hauptsächlich aus gedruckten Stoffen (Hibernation von Tilda) bestehen - ich wollte aber ein paar gestickte Hexis hineinmixe. Überlege, ob ich es wagen soll, als Erinnerung eine von meiner Mutter mit Streublümchen bestickte Tischdecke ebenfalls einfließen zu lassen. Liegt sonst nur im Schrank und so hätte ich jeden Tag ein Stück von ihr da.

Wer neugierig ist: Das soll das erste Hexi für einen #QuiltAsYouGo -Quilt werden, wie ich ihn bei Emma Jones/ Vintage Sewing Box auf YT erspäht habe. Der Stoff ist deswegen etwas seltsam im Zuschnitt, weil es Abschnitte von Leinenstoff sind - Überreste von meinem ersten byzantinischem Kleid fürs Reenactment. Ich mache zum ersten Mal einen Quilt für mich selbst und fand die Gelegenheit schön, um solche Stücke mit einzubauen.
(Und damit ist mein kurzer Energieschub dann auch schon wieder aufgebraucht und ich sinke elegant röchelnd in meine Kissen zurück.)

Gestern endlich den Hintern hoch bekommen, in die Nachbarstadt zu fahren, wo es ein nettes Akkordeonorchester gibt. Weil das Instrument in der Straßenbahn sperrig genug ist, will ich keine Zusatztasche. Also Mappe und Notenständer zusammen ins Vorderfach quetschen... halt, die neue Mappe soll nicht zerkratzen!
Also aus einem Jeansrest mal schnell eine Hülle genäht. In der Flappe steckt ein Magnet, so dass sie automatisch zuschnappt, wenn der Notenständer drin ist.

So I got a new pegboard from IKEA to store my hoops and stuff and I love it. I’m gonna get some more attachments so I can keep adding to it, but it makes my brain happy. Plus I can store my more complicated pieces on it so they’re both displayed and not likely to be sat on by a chonker of a cat.

since my art mojo hasn't been the best lately, I've been trying my hand at different media, like paper clay.
It's super relaxing and kinda takes me back to crafting as a kid. I got a little impatient with the coaster and some of the posca paint smudged while varnishing, but oh well...
I did not think that the varnish would work with gouache on the mushroom, but surprisingly, it does! 😀 #MastoArt #crafting

My Time At Portia is a cozy third-person post-apocalyptic crafting RPG.
Customise your avatar, and then the ferry docks at Portia where you alight to take over your father's old workshop, and become one of the town's builders.
Chop down trees, break rocks, make tools, I've done it all before in so many games, and while it's nice to have a post apocalyptic game where society has actually been rebuilt, it's a bit too cutesy for me.

I've been interested in pursuing anotber crafty hobby for a long time, and I'm always drawn to beautiful #embroidery. I imagine I'd have to start with basic patterns, but the goal would be designing and making those intricate art pieces with lots of layers and little pearls and such.

I'd like to preserve some #lichen and bought a bottle of glycerine.
Does anyone know what ratio of glycerine to water I need to use?
I've seen different ratios, some even using alcohol and acetone instead of water. 🤨
Does the lichen have to be dry or fresh?
