Imagine the vibrant imagination in sci-fi that frames horses, that we are so used to seeing as being controlled by humans, as a predatory species!
A few weeks ago, I finished a five week bookmaking class at a local art center in my neighborhood. I have really wanted to do something with my hands and I've had such a great time making these books - it almost was like meditation. Doing it has helped me be more comfortable with learning from my mistakes. I'm so glad I did it!

We have "pineapple" because it looked vaguely like a pinecone, which at the time were called pineapples, because they were something hanging off a tree that happened to be a pine. Nobody even came up with a new word, they just used the same one for a completely different object that doesn't even grow on a tree.
A "leopard" was already a "pard." Some ass then called it a "lion leopard."
A "sea urchin" is named after what we now call hedgehogs.
Springfield was chosen for The Simpsons' town because there's one in like half the states in America and they wanted viewers to identify it as theirs.
Half of New England is "New" tacked on whatever was in England. Everything in England has the WORST names when translated into modern English. We're talking "bargain bin at the dollar store fantasy novel" crap.
If anything, we're currently the BEST we've ever been at naming.
Are AI tools really as smart as creative writers? 🧐 It looks like we will soon know for sure. In any case, AI and its influence on our societies must be watched closely: After all the tools were trained with human writers content who they are now supposed to replace.

3/3 The voice-over inspiration for Adidas's ad comes from an even older, iconic ad: the 1998 ad for The Independent newspaper, by the agency Lowe Howard-Spink.
The narrative? A lot of 'Don't do...' this and that. The ad ends with 'Don't buy' (with a shot of a stack of newspapers) and 'Don't read'.
This is good inspiration, building on the older narratives to remix a new one!

2/2 And as they talk about it, it builds the vehicle's profile! I loved the lines, "It lives out there, in the city", "It wanders the street at night, looking for food" (to establish the city road profile), and "It can carry 2 kayaks, on its back" (to establish the off-roading capability). The line invoking the parking was the weakest, though - I thought it didn't fit seamlessly into the build-up of the idea.

The German Society of Self-employed Copywriters has published a position paper on the use of AI in #copywriting & other #creative professions.
Some of their points & demands:
- The online work of creative professionals needs to be protected.
- AI services must be transparent in how their #bots are trained (i.e. exactly which online data they use).
- Human creativity must be protected, valued, and supported.
- AI-generated copy should be labelled as such. 👍
