One of the things that makes Baru iylwenpeny so special is that we have a lot of it. There are seven skulls, and dozens of postcranial bones This makes it the single most completely known mekosuchine crocodile in Australia, if not the world (there are apparently a lot of Mekosuchus inexpectatus bones - but little of it is published and I don't think there is a whole skull known).

Here is a picture of the holotype of Baru iylwenpeny being excavated. It comes from the fantastically rich, dense bonebed of Alcoota, a mass death assemblage from the Late Miocene (about 8 million years old) in central Australia
So let me tell you guys a little about this magnificent new crocodile. The species name is 'iylwenpeny' but is pronounced "eel - OON - bin - yah" which looks about as far from the spelling as it is possible to get. It is an Anmatjerre name (an Arandic language from central Australia) and means "skilled at hunting".

Any love for #BattleBots on Masto? Here is a glamor shot of my three pound robot "Snaggletooth", a wedge with a lifting arm made to look like a crocodile. All robots must have a power indication light for safety reasons so on this robot Snaggletooth's eyes light up red. Snaggletooth has one title to its name, a win in Beaumont, TX in 2020 where it claimed first place!
Snaggletooth was a big hit with the audience who loved the colorful theming. There was a kiddo in the crowd who was celebrating his birthday that day so I affixed one of Snaggletooth's battle damaged decorative teeth to a little metal plaque and signed it for him. :)

"Cymetrodons" is my love letter to alien invasion and Japanese kaiju movies. It takes place on an alternate version of Earth called Geb, where human beings never evolved from apes. Geb is instead populated by three different civilizations: the Kektrish (a race of crocodile people who live in Great Kektrys), the Baskilians (a race of snake people who live in Baskilia), and the Nephret (a race of frog people who live in Nephret).
The Baskilians are magnificent technicians and have built robotic "limb suits" to give themselves arms and legs. The Nephret are prolific healers who distill medicines from the poisonous toxins on their skins, and they can also regrow their limbs or even change their sexes as needed. The Kektrish have a long history of civil war and have invented a weapon called "the Ghost Ray" that can decimate entire cities with one shot.
The story of "Cymetrodons" begins shortly after the last Kektrish Civil War, when the Ghost Ray is sabotaged by a Kektrish soldier named Grawuul. Following this, the Three Peoples of Geb are attacked by an alien invasion force. The aliens are known only as "the Strangers" and are impervious to all conventional weaponry. The Kektrish government wants to re-deploy the Ghost Ray against these invaders, but the rest of the world knows this would be an apocalyptic mistake. So Grawuul offers to lead a special group - WIT (the World Intelligence Taskforce) - to find a less catastrophic way of battling the Strangers.
Grawuul recruits Kroakoan, a Nephret doctor and peace activist who has personally witnessed the horrors of the Ghost Ray, and Thyssa, a Baskilian mechanic and daredevil who enjoys building killer robots. With Thyssa's help, WIT builds three gigantic robot monster machines to fight the Strangers: Motormouth, Roughneck, and Steeltoe. These giant robots are the titular Cymetrodons, and they are all that stand between the Three Peoples of Geb and extinction.
This album is dedicated to the holy Netjeru, Lord Sobek, Lady Wadjet, and Lady Heqet. It is available on Amazon, iTunes, Spotify, and various other digital music platforms. I've also produced a complete animated film for the album (just over 1 hour in length), which can be enjoyed for free on YouTube.

A huge #crocodile that stands out not only for its size but also for its strange appearance lives on the river banks of northern #India and #Nepal.
Freshwater Gavial, 🐊 An #endangered crocodile was captured with hundreds of its young.
The spectacular image of this crocodile, with its cubs posing on top of it, has been captured by wildlife photographer Dhritiman Mukherjee, who has been awarded the ‘Wildlife #endangered of the Year’ by the National Museum of History in London.
This species of crocodile is critically endangered. Where once upon a time lived more than 20,000 of them in South Asia, the species has now been reduced to less than 1,000 adult animals, and three quarters of those are concentrated in the Uttar Pradesh sanctuary.

AAAS: "Crocodiles are alarmingly attuned to the cries of human infants." Infants across the animal kingdom cry out to their parents when they need something. But others may be listening. "Nile crocodiles are uniquely sensitive to the wails of distressed primate babies, according to a new study—and the more anxious the cry, the more interested the crocs become." Nicolas Grimault, a bioacoustician at the University of Lyon, and colleagues visited a zoo in Agadir, Morocco, that houses more than 300 Nile crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus)—a predator particularly well suited to hunting primates and other mammals. They installed loudspeakers alongside 4 ponds. "The speakers blared out a series of cries from chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes), bonobo (P. paniscus), and human infants, captured in a variety of situations in order to document a wide range of emotion." Many of the crocs, both male + female, responded by rapidly approaching the sound source + sometimes even biting the speakers.
