Maybe this is a good opportunity to show what I am doing as a #herbarium #curator.
Curators are basically librarians for collectibles other than books. In my case, I take care of the plant collections of the #NaturalHistoryMuseumLondon.
Taking care means a lot of things. I digitise (database and image), repair, clean and update herbarium specimens.

viewfinder distributes and promotes photography on mastodon.art and all over the fediverse. 
all types and techniques of photography are welcome. so — photographers, draw attention to yourselves. 
i'm here to raise visibility, and to boost your photoverse posts. photos without ALT text, however, have little chance of attracting my attention.

Did you know that most artifacts in #American #museums are "hot"?

Up until 1984, the #antiquities #trade was almost entirely unregulated.

In 1973, renowned #curator John D. Cooney put it bluntly when asked about the legality of it all:

“95 percent of ancient #art material [...] has been smuggled in. If the museums in this country began to send back all the smuggled material to their countries of origin, the museum walls would be bare.”

(Of course, this is also true for all other countries.)

Apparently people have been using a #Curator hashtag for weeks and I've only just noticed it, so fat lot of good that did 🤣

I check art-related hashtags. MastoArt, Art, FediArt, then all the genres (DigitalArt, PixelArt, Photography, painting, music, etc.) and mediums (Watercolour, Oil, illustration, ink, etc.), and crafting tags (knitting, clay, pottery, woodworking, etc.) - I follow loads and loads and loads of tags. But not that one, because it's not a form of art/craft/creativity. :p

I paint things with pixels and pigments. I make things with yarn and string while watching too much YouTube. An autistic learning to unmask. Queer and blackity Black. Technology enthusiast.
