Do you use darkmode ?
@akmartinez Possible, whenever i lower the brightness on my TVs, they use less energy. My 50" TV went from 120W down to 65W when i set it to a lower brightness level.
One way to get more Darkmode is to start the magnifier in windows then press CTRL + ALT + I to invert the colours of everything. It can cause windows to get unstable. Try to unflip it back to normal mode, then quit the magnifier app, i think there may be some functionality there that can cause it to crash if it is not undone. The magnifier thing is something i learned a while ago when i got an eye infection back in februari that persists to this day, lightsensitivity was so bad just a month ago i felt pain when things were too bright.
I also read your post earlier about Darkmode and implemented #darkmode in a project i'm working on(*). I've also added some things like Icons to make things more distinct (besides colour) for people who are colourblind.
Is this theory I have confirmed or is there a way to confirm it?
I have a vision disability and working on my computer in a Dark Mode helps me so much.
My theory is if a screen is in a Dark Mode or where it's white text on a black background, it is more energy efficient. Does displaying a black pixel take less energy than displaying a white pixel?
If so wouldn't it be more beneficial overall if making the change to a Dark Mode format we can reduce energy consumption, and possibly prolong the life if screens, reduce the amount of heat generated by our devices and so on?
Or does it not matter? If it does matter imagine how much it would benefit the Earth if we just made the switch as much as possible now and get developers to default to Dark Mode instead of what it is now. Change the themes of all web pages, application backgrounds, and so on...

Google Chrome 114 Will Respect Dark Mode on Linux
If you use Google Chrome (or Chromium, before anyone hisses) you may have noticed that websites you visit in it don’t respect your dark mode preference on Linux. The window chrome totally matches, but the content of web pages and chrome://urls (which do support dark mode) don’t change. Here’s an example in Google Chrome 112 (which at the time of writing is the most recent stable release). When I load the redesigned Flathub website with dark mode enabled on my system the website content remains light despite supporting the prefers-color-scheme media query: Light remains the default when loading other websites :sys_more_orange:

I just added a #darkmode to my website within 1 hour ... with #Bootstrap5.3. All it took was to add some markup, some #Javascript, and then fix a bunch of statically defined colors in components that clashed. See https://kollitsch.dev. Time to beta the kid, @mdo, and team!
Don't know why it took me so long to put everything into dark mode, especially on my desktop browser. So much easier on the eyes and less energy intensive.
The https://ronin-rb.dev website now has a Dark Mode button to save your retinas. If you have any feedback feel free to reply here, or submit an issue on GitHub. Don't worry, no React or other heavy JavaScript frameworks were used, only lightweight vanilla JavaScript and CSS.

What are some good blue/midnight-blue dark mode color palettes? I feel like gray-scale based dark-mode themes feel a bit too "gun metal". Needs a hint of blue, much like the midnight sky.

a random thought on why #darkmode just makes more sense:
on paper, white is the default state, so as writing text is a change to the default state, it is black
on a monitor, the default state is black, so text should be white

#qBittorrent is the only #Linux #torrent client I've found that supports a #DarkMode in #Cinnamon - through a manually-installed theme, but at least it's there. Both #Fragments and #Transmission ignore Cinnamon's dark mode settings.

Some people with astigmatism or other eye conditions have a hard time with light text on a dark background. The letters can have blurriness, "halation," or "ghosting".
Spotify does not provide a method of switching from dark mode to light mode. If you would like to see Spotify implement this change, please follow the link and vote!

Excellent work on a holistic light mode for GNOME. Currently GNOME has a dark mode and a “mixed mode” and the “mixed mode” is used when the light colour scheme is active. If that sounds inconsistent, that’s because it is.

My issue is the following: I'm trying to add #darkMode support to my SVGs, but this actually makes them “invisible” when visualized standalone at least on #Firefox, because the background (unspecified, so transparent when an image) ends up white when standalone. I would like to specify the SVG background as black but ONLY when viewed standalone. Suggestions?

How to make Qt applications conform to the Gnome desktop theme
In particular, I had the Quassel IRC client stuck in light mode while everything else was dark.
sudo apt install qt5-style-kvantum
echo "export QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE=kvantum" >> ~/.profile
Log out and log in. Quassel should be in dark mode now, like the rest of the system.

There was a semi-complaint coming how difficult it seems to be to do #darkmode / #lightmode in Linux using #XFCE. Then I remembered I use #ArchLinux which has a wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dark_mode_switching which points to a project https://gitlab.com/WhyNotHugo/darkman/ which does exactly what I needed and more (compared to recent experience with MacOS and Android that expired this search). So there it is, open source & people's creativity delights. There wasn't anything but someone thought there should be and made it happen.
