The original television series, TWIN PEAKS (1990-1991), aired when I was the night manager at a campus video store (6 nights a week, 6pm-midnight). After each episode aired patrons would come in and rave about it. But I missed the whole thing. And, perhaps for Freudian or Lynchian reasons, I've never seen it, even after it came out on DVD, etc. Consequently, I also haven't see any other Twin Peaks related shows/movies. I feel the strong need to fix that situation.

This would obviously be very expensive, and worth it, imo, even if he does end up releasing more such work.
I've enjoyed part of #DavidLynch's, work, some being among my favorites (#BlueVelvet), but not being able to understand so much of his #art has made it difficult for me to fully appreciate him.

It also, wonderfully, shows the background and path he took to making his first feature, ERASERHEAD (1977), a modern masterpiece of art-house cinema.

#TheCriterionChannel has a collection of #DavidLynch's short films. I just watched his first two, SIX MEN GETTING SICK (1967, length 4:20) and THE ALPHABET (1968, length 4:02).
Fascinating. These were done when he was an art student. He was studying #painting but was driven to find ways to make the paintings move. Thus began his life with #film.

In the second season of #TwinPeaks, she appeared in disguise as a Japanese business man named Mr. Tojamura - a secret so well hidden, not even the other actors knew about it. For months she and #DavidLynch fooled everyone into thinking the character is played by a famous Japanese actor called Fumio Yamaguchi, who worked with #AkiraKurosawa.
The only reason she didn't return for Season 3 was that they couldn't give her a good story. She'd have loved to return.

The first few seconds of the film immediately remind me of Rabbit Moon by #KennethAnger
The circular storytelling is so #DavidLynch. Mamoru Oshii was more familiar with European film, but I bet he and #Amano were influenced by these two American filmmakers.
Oh and speaking of, the neo-gothic art of #Amano is so faithfully animated. It's literally a miracle.

I'm listening to my kids watch anime. I'm realizing that David Lynch's Dune was ahead of its time as the first attempt at a live action anime. You can tell because he makes you listen to everyone's inner monologue describing their plans and reactions to other people.

I'm a DUNE fanatic. I've read the novel several times. I celebrate Denis Villeneuve's DUNE (2021) as a monumental cinematic achievement and a brilliant lesson in how to adapt an unadaptable, but beloved book. That all said, DUNE (1984) -- directed by David Lynch, whose birthday is today -- is awesome despite its myriad flaws, and I shake my head pityingly at those who wasted years of their lives trying to convince themselves otherwise.
