Update 01 June
We declare NatNet a success! As far as we can tell, all home nodes behind NAT were successfully detected and shut down.
Now we are confident in detecting nodes behind a NAT, the next step would be allowing them to join via hole punching and UDP/Quic.
We’re also taking an initial gander at provider nodes that can perform tasks such as archiving.
The other area we’ve returned to is the matter of node sizing.

This is what I would like to begin with when answering your question. The development of Eurasian integration has no connection whatsoever to current developments or market conditions. We established this organization many years ago. In fact, we established it at the initiative of the First President of Kazakhstan [Nursultan Nazarbayev].
I remember very well the main conversation we had on that issue, on that subject, when he said, “You must choose what is more important to you: working more actively and more closely with your direct neighbors and natural partners, or prioritizing, for example, admission to the World Trade Organization.” It was in this connection that we had to make decisions.
And although we were interested in joining the WTO and in developing relations accordingly with our Western partners, as you said and as I continue to say, we nevertheless regarded as our main priority the development of relations with our direct and natural neighbors within the common economic framework of the Soviet Union. This is my first point.

Despite its ‘rapid unscheduled disassembly’ (© SpaceX), we really did learn some valuable lessons from it, and fortunately the fixes shouldn’t be too tricky.
We also found a bug related to logging which has already been sorted, so we’ll be fully ready to go once the next iteration is ready.

I'm now beginning to learn just how challenging it is to run a #federated and #decentralized platform. I definitely made some mistakes while migrating from #debian to #freebsd. One of those mistakes was not doing any database cleanup like culling accounts no longer active. Then I learned the hard way that I had to do a complete media refresh when I didn't copy the cached images of all of my followers avatars. This is a good learning experience!
Somehow, the press never asks any questions that weren't already in the press release, and certainly none that would offend their advertisers.
There are a couple other factors besides the fact that centralized stations can run the high side more efficiently than more decentralized iterations. The most obvious one is what is done with the energy saved (read: money & profits for corporations).
When that is diverted & extracted, users pick up the tab. Pricing options generally restrict or compromise the natural tendencies of people to control their actions (their own efficiency pursuits). This combination results in users adopting practices that are wasteful, redundant, and mismanaged.
In other words, the efficiencies of a centralized system maintain their monopoly advantage by making it impossible for a competitor (or anyone else!) to implement cost-saving procedures *and* have the same availability.
If your competitor is open 24/7, you can't be open more than them. Seen from the other side, if you're in the lead (& @ max speed), you remove all governors that limit use.
Since limits are fundamental to sustainable systems, this is a recipe for failure. This is another aspect to the Tragedy of the Commons. Local control delivers optimal resilience & centralized hub networks deliver optimal production efficiency.
So we have to be careful about what we view as the 'old way'. It practically never entailed individuals each paying to run their systems at max 24/7, while actually using much less. (Speaking generally here, not just regarding servers & internet.)
It also did not entail billions of bot interactions whose only purpose is to generate a higher view count, nor billions of digital photos & auto-played videos saved that would never make it past an editor, and won't be viewed again. The list goes on & on..

But let's be honest: blocking Elon Musk is easier said than done. The man has a way of capturing our attention and refusing to let go, whether we love him or hate him. So if you do decide to engage with Musk on the Fediverse, just remember to be careful and protect your personyal information.
And who knows? Maybe Musk will surprise us all and use his vast wealth and influence for good, rather than evil. Maybe he'll donyate all his data to scientific research, or use it to cure diseases and save lives. Maybe he's not the data-stealing supervillain we all fear, but rather a misunderstood genius with a heart of gold.
Or maybe he's just Elon Musk. Either way, be careful out there on the Fediverse, and watch out for any suspicious activity. You never know who might be lurking in the shadows, ready to steal your data and use it for their own nefarious purposes.

@thelinuxEXP #PeerTube is the only proper alternative to centralized platforms like YouTube IMO. The issue is, as always, how to fund these things properly... 🙃 But at least you can read up on an instance's rules, to see if they moderate away horrible things or not. And you can block instances you don't like.
So... anyone got any ideas how we can fund PeerTube, and possibly the larger Fediverse, in a fair way? 🤔

Testnet time is here again! Join the first community testnet (joshnet) using our new architecture.
In other news, this week the team has been mostly engaged in tracking down node discovery anomalies. We don’t think these will be an issue with a full scale testnet but they can make testing on a smaller scale tricky. The main culprit seems to be the #Rust Tokio library.

It took a bit longer than we might have hoped, but here we have our first public testnet of the Safe Network code layered atop libp2p.
At the moment we have 25 nodes up, with around 1gb of storage available to each of them.
