Thoughts on being nonbinary.
2 years ago, at 50 years old, when the illusionary armor of my "manhood" crumbled into the dry dust that it was created from, I exploded in glitter and the desire for soft curves and smooth skin. The amount of emotional pressure that it took to keep all of those aspects in shadow was so great that I was thrown all the way into the full desire to embrace my "womanhood".
It was a very exciting, confusing, and exhausting time. My spouse was quietly supportive, but I could see that she was suffering as well. My therapist was a gloriously loving and supportive cheerleader and a steady voice reminding me to practice immediacy and mindfulness.
In these past two years of experimenting, shimmering, laughing, and crying, the practices of immediacy, mindfulness, and unconditional self acceptance have been my compass and guiding stars. Reading the journeys of others, many here in the fediverse, I slowly found my home in the universe of gender identity and sexuality.
As with everything else in my life, I found myself longing for the middle ground.
I know in my being that I am not "man".
I know I'm my being that I am not "woman"
I know I'm my being that I am neither/both/somewhere gently flowing in-between.
I am not hetero or homo sexual. When I am feeling sexual, it normally unfolds into a desire to connect and play on a physical level with another wholehearted being, their gender identity doesn't matter just the connection and willingness to play.
My relationship with my spouse has blossomed in the same way. The interesting thing about practicing unconditional self acceptance is that it doesn't stop there. It rolls onto everyone. It has entirely remade my relationships.
Recently, I was turned on to Alok Vaid-Menon and when they spoke of being truly nonbinary, not just in gender but in every way, it reminded me of the Buddhist principle of non-duality. Suddenly, it all clicked for me. I've been seeking nonbinary since puberty which is around when I first read Zen Mind Beginner's Mind by Suzuki and Sidhartha by Herman Hesse.
That's the story of my journey so far. Now, a little tea, take the dogs out, then a massage and reiki appointment.

I have a question for any other #Demisexual folks out there. For me, when I've been sexually atttracted to someone, and then consequentially have had that attraction break I would almost equate what I feel towards that person as ... well ... asexual. I am just not sexually attracted again. I feel complete neutrality. Is this normal? Am I even okay to describe the feeling as asexual? I’ve been on Mastodon for 6 months, just changed servers, and — given the prevalent “this is it” feeling of other Twitter castaways this week — it feels a good time to re-re-introduce myself.
I am a survivor of clergy sexual abuse from Greater Boston — I was one of them kids. My writing sprouts rhizomatically from there and then through autofiction based on 16 years of dream-journaling, episodic dissociation, recalls of abuse, alcohol addiction and recovery, a sensitivity to ephemera and eternal return.
Following a stroke 12 years ago I became a certified personal trainer. Further into recovery I co-hosted wellness seminars for fellow survivors of sexual abuse. Ambulatorily-disabled upon being hit by a 65+mph car 5+ years ago, I now walk with the assistance of a shillelagh. I continue to train in San Miguel Eskrima.
I’m on social media primarily out of concern over COVID and fascism. A recluse, offline I keep to myself. But I’ve also never met a stranger.

My #introduction post: I'm #Autistic & was diagnosed with "hyperactivity" before #ADHD existed in the DSM. I self-diagnosed in my 20s, back in the early 2000s, but only got an official diagnosis (privately, as the NHS in my area was useless for AFAB adults) in January 2020. In addition, I'm #dyspraxic and #dyscalculic too.
I'm #disabled and #ChronicallyIll - my main diagnoses are #PoTs , #CentralSleepApnea , #Endometriosis , #InterstitialCystitis and #HidradenitisSuppurativa (among others).
As well as being #ActuallyAutistic , I'm an #atheist , a #humanist and #demisexual , #bisexual and #nonbinary .
I love the #Marvel character #TheWinterSoldier and the actor Sebastian Stan, #Rats , #knitting , #crochet , #tunisiancrochet, #writing and anything #medicine or #scientific . #Learning is definitely a #spin (and clearly I love hashtags too 😂).

Online, my name is William Wallace. In the real world, I go by my legal name. I am many things, a man, a husband, a father, an engineer, a non-monogamist, and a wannabe blogger.
My wife, otherwise known as Missus Sub, and I opened a new door in February 2015 to discover non-monogamy and all that encompasses it. Initially it started as something to do together, but has evolved into something that we didn’t expect. Is it impossible to close, probably not, but certainly very difficult if we wanted.
