I gave Diablo IV a go since the free weekend is still up. So here's a review of the first hour from someone who usually doesn't play Diablo:
+ First thing you see is the accessibility settings
+ Ability to start with no tutorial (and they mean it!)
+ Pixel-perfect UI
+ Diablo 1 vibes
+ No auto-equipping of items
+ Runs perfectly on Linux (through Proton)
+ No complicated lore at the beginning
+ Well-tuned difficulty (I asked for easy and I got easy, but not brain-dead)
But...
- No traditional anti-aliasing and no ability to disable it
- The game-rendered cutscenes are noticeably lacking visual quality
- Still no scrolls :(

Kyle and I have been playing lots of #Diablo4 and it's been really fun! But now that we're in Act III, we're meeting more people in game and I hate that we have to play online.
I don't want to see other people, or go through a long stretch without any enemies because the BRIAN clan is around (lol we did meet that clan). And it lags way more.
Anyway, fun game, we reached level 50 today! My Barbarian is the best ⚔️
It really feels like #Blizzard is in free fall, yesterday I tried their #Diablo4 #FreeWeekend which just ended up being a demo that they could have just let you play any time.
The game itself was ok but it felt like 1 step forward but 2 steps back.

Weird issue with my #steamdeck or the #battlenet installer. I am currently trying to install #Diablo4 via the battlenet launcher. And for whatever reason, the download of the 90GB starts, runs for a little while - and then, suddenly, the connection drops, and I have to manually restart. No idea how? Why? Anyone else with that kind of problem?
I'm not quite sure though if maybe the connection to the router might be the problem. But that's more a personal feeling, no educated guess.

Morning Folks! I've largely entered maintenance mode in #Diablo4 where I am just farming world bosses to get the last few ilvl 925 upgrades. Since I know I will be playing #PathOfExile hard and heavy next Friday for the Sentinel/Kalandra event I spent last night trying to ease back into #FFXIV with some success. I SERIOUSLY can't wait till Bobby Nodick leaves Activision Blizzard. He is the sole reason that the company is in the shape that it's in.
Gamers don't make games there anymore. Coders and artists and "directors" do. They make the game and then proceed to NOT play that game. At least this was the case with Diablo 4.
With World of Warcraft, the issue is seemingly that they just don't care what their players want. They put shit into the game that the players specifically ask them not to. It's like they're trying to kill retail. Not to mention the very weird art direction the game has taken and the creative decisions for the lore that keep changing stuff that was already decided. I have hopes this will change with Metzen returning but the ball is still in Bobby's court till he leaves.
He needs to go. He doesn't give a shit about what gamers want and the company has suffered massive blows directly because of it.

Diablo IV is not doing so well, apparently. One of the main critiques seems to be the boring grind. Which I find weird, wasn't that the main appeal in all Diablos? I mean, season grinding in D3 was boring af and D2 didn't even offer anything comparable and people still grinded the shit out of it.
It sold like hot cakes at the first wave and that could have been it but Blizzard wanted to go full grind MMO on this thing and, weirdly enough, that doesn't seem to stick. And here I thought creating appealing grinds was their core speciality.

Tomorrow or Friday will be my first foray into maps in #PathOfExile. It took #Diablo4 having zero things to do at endgame but play the worst part of the game (the dungeons) over and over again to finally get me to finish the PoE campaign. After 7 or 8 false starts of bricking a build.
Still didn’t use guides for the build. My minions are an unkillable swarm spawning ever more minions. I always beat the campaign for these games the first time with minions it seems.
D2, #GrimDawn, D4, and now PoE.
This #PathOfExile season is so good it’s making me doubt Blizzard has any hope at all of clawing out any market share for #Diablo4. I have doubled my total PoE hours in this season alone. Feel like the game finally clicked for me.
As long as Nightmare Dungeons are the only way to make progress with your character in D4 endgame I’ll never go back.
It’s really difficult to impossible to go back to #Diablo4 from #PathOfExile or #GrimDawn.

Finally (!!!) got a Deathless Visage to drop in #diablo4 yesterday, just minutes before hitting level 90.
I'd already considered giving up on the idea of ever having one if it doesn't drop before 90; got all other Necro uniques multiple times, just not that helm I that's pretty much BIS for Bone Spear builds.
Anyway, damn you, mind reading RNG, will have to push for 100 now I think...

So, #Diablo4 has an achievement for reaching level 50 on a “hardcore” character. (Hardcore characters can’t be revived. When they die once, they are gone permanently.)
I’m at 49 and it’s one of the most nerve-wrecking gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

So I've decided on Rogue for Season 1 of Diablo IV, but cannot for the life of me decide on a build. They all sound like fun. Barrage has multiple arrows flying out, and I found this so exhilarating. Flurry has a 360° area of effect, Penetrating Shot uses a massive arrow, while Twisting Blades sounds fast and furious. I suppose I can try them all out over the first twenty levels to see which is my favorite. What build is everyone else going to use?
