Warning: I bought 2 clones of the #diamond #RH770 VHF/UHF HT #antenna on #aliexpress and have regretted it, especially as I failed to check them in the returns period. The female sma version was okay, but only just within manageable swr and not exhibiting any gain over my Nagoya 771. The BNC version was faulty with the lowest swr at 160, so I suspect a fault where it's connected to the BNC part. Caveat emptor!

Update. I think the Lancet is wrong to assume that new funder #openaccess policies will be #gold more often than #green. (All the US policies are green.) But either way, it's right to waive or discount APCs when authors can't find funding from their funders or employers.
Next: Like #PLOS and others, it should investigate no-APC (#diamond) OA publishing for all authors, not just those facing economic hardship.

See the full article for evidence that the invisible journals tend to be from the global south, pub'd in languages other than English, and use a #diamond (no-APC) business model.
It also shows that even high estimates for predatory journals can't account for more than a small fraction of the full range recognized by the larger sources.

Another piece raising important objections to article processing charges (#APCs) but falsely assuming that all or most #openaccess depends on them. It mentions no-fee (#diamond) OA journals and #green OA without elaboration, and seems unaware that 70% of peer-reviewed OA journals charge no APCs.

As of today the Directory of Open Access Journals (#DOAJ) lists 18,495 peer-reviewed #openaccess journals.
12,756 (69%) charge no #APCs.
This has been the pattern for >15 years. About 70% of OA journals are no-APC or no-fee (also called #diamond) OA journals.
Thanks to a UI enhancement earlier this year, both numbers are displayed on the DOAJ front page. It's easy to get the latest numbers. It's easy to correct those who assert or assume that all or most OA journals charge APCs.
