Wie findet ihr eigentlich diesen Opportunity-Attack-Mechanismus? Also ich verstehe wieso es den gibt, von einer regeltechnischen Perspektive, aber narrativ finde ich es manchmal sehr merkwürdig. Das ist ja doch sehr situationsabhängig ob man jemanden angreifen kann, der sich wegbewegt, oder? Also besonders dieses dann um die Leute rum tanzen um nur ja nicht ihren Radius zu verlassen fühlt manchmal strange.

I'm in a weird place with my group. We played #DnD5e since it came out. This year, we've been dabbling in other games and currently we're trying #Pathfinder2e—a game where most mechanics make me think, "Cool. That's awesome and makes sense."
But I still have a weird longing for the familiarity of 5E.

Nach sechs Wochen Pause zum ersten Mal wieder #dnd5e geleitet.
Dit war gut. So langsam laufen die Runden auch wieder an, habs schon sehr vermisst, auch wenn ich zwischenzeitlich in einem neuen Pathfinder Kingmaker und Wrath of the Righteous playthrough versumpft und selber im Urlaub war.
Bin weiterhin sehr begeistert vom #GrimHollow Setting #Etharis und auch das Abenteuer in 6 "Fabeln" ist (zumindest bis Fabel 3) sehr gut und abwechslungsreich. Nur halt auch sehr teuer mit 90EUR.

"Guiding Bolt" is a good choice too, but remember out of range attacks roll at a disadvantage. Melee could work, but it's risky. Running is an option, but it's a gamble. My advice? I'll start. We used the **Gritty Realism** rest variant (short rest of 8 hours and a long rest of 7 days) for a multi-year campaign. Verdict? An excellent way to enforce the theme. Not overbearing but definitely affected decisions throughout the game.

I wanted to see how much effect the advantage and disadvantage rules in Dungeons & Dragons (and therefore Baldur's Gate 3) actually have on the probability of passing a dice roll.
An intuitive guess would be "I get to roll two dice so it doubles my chance of success, right?"
Well no, that's not how probability works. "Doubling your chances" isn't really a thing because probability can never be larger than 1.
Instead, if for example your single d20 check has a 75% success chance (at a DC of 6), then the second roll when you apply advantage takes the 25% failure chance, takes 75% of that and adds it to your success probability, resulting in 93.8%, which is much more than halfway between 75 and 100.
The formula for an advantage roll with a success probability
of P turns out to be 2P - P^2. For disadvantage it's (1 - P)^2.
(this doesn't take into account critical success/failure because those rules are applied after the dice roll result is known)

Hey #DnD DMs out there. What level do you start the PCs out as when starting a brand new long-term game (i.e. campaign, not one-shot)?
I have my own thoughts on D&D. The core game for me has always been levels 3-12ish. For me, levels 1 & 2 are training-wheel levels (with fragile characters). I have rarely played in anything higher than level 12. But I am curious to see what others think.

Pro #DnD GM Tip: if you build your party a NPC goblin sidekick and give them control of the character sheet in Roll20, you're going to buy yourself somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-15 minutes while the players all pore over the sheet and argue about who gets to run the little goblin in combat.
This is valuable time you can use to sow further dissent and chaos among them. Use it wisely.

Made another smaller Dynamod board game table for conventions and trade shows. It will be used by a friend to show off the filament painted tiles at the East Coast RepRep Festival 2023 in October.
Dynamod has come such a long way in a year and a half, everything here was 3D printed with a filament printer, nothing was painted. The details in the walls are impressive and the whole table is incredible sturdy.

#RPGaDay2023 8: Favourite character: my favourite character I’ve ever played was from a few years ago, she was a centaur bard, living in a human society for the first time (#DnD5e). I have never played a bard before and they are way cool! We were dungeon crawling so I gave her a Cloak of the Arachnida. She was delightfully all-terrain! Coming from Centaur royalty, she was a wide-eyed country girl in the big city, painting her hoofs with glitter and marvelling at how humans lived in houses. She was obviously an affront to all ideas of centaurs as noble creatures, but how seriously can you take it when you’re playing a horse?

Another failed #Kickstarter unfortunately: Crucible Magazine.
The print issues that they completed used book quality printing. What I wanted from the magazine however was a return to the spirit of Dragon (or Dungeon) Magazines ... and this really wasn't quite there.
In some ways, it also felt like this content was over-produced for #TTRPG hobby magazine. The earlier mags felt more authentic to _me_.
