This was such an incredibly difficult problem to solve. #Email can include #CSS, but that CSS can be dangerous to show in a web page. So I now have a CSS parser in #Port87 that sanitizes, filters, and properly scopes the CSS in your email before showing it to you.
If an email looks good in #Gmail, it will look good in Port87 Mail! :D

Now, I'm honestly not saying this because I work at @thunderbird, but the new #Outlook is a buggy mess within the first 5 minutes of use. I'm quite surprised that "Switch to New Outlook" toggle is even there.
My Gmail account requested re-authorization twice, and switching off Focused Inbox completely zapped everything from the message pane, and I can't get it back.
So I did it. I set up #postfix + #dovecot + #mariadb, removed my ip address from spamhaus, and finally have a #selfhosted mail. You may think hah, what a dumb creature, he will regret that. I hurry to say, this mail is only used by me for my cloud notifications-like stuff and for fun, nothing important, since already I see how hard it would be to achieve the feeling of proffesional mail with filters, and probably few other fancy things.
But.....

Since getting my web server and email server up and running it's been fascinating watching the emails (to an address I 'retired' long ago) build up.
So far *75* junk and just 11 real, and those 11 are all DMARC reports/aggregates.
No personal emails as I have not re-released the old email address to anyone yet. Email server has been up for just 2 weeks.
Amazed that an email address that's been out of use for several years is still spammed, must be eternal!

How soon do you expect replies to #work #email?
When I ask colleagues, answers range from hours to days. This ambiguity may be a source of stress. So I've prepended a disclaimer to my email #signature line: "No pressure to read or reply outside your normal working hours, of course."
Generally, I rarely need a response within a week. In rare cases in which my email is motivated by an immanent #deadline, I try to disclose that to my recipient.

Switchting my e-mail provider from mailbox.org to Zoho was really easy. Now I can share my domain with others but also use catch-all for me. Pricing seems fair so far and the Webinterfaces for Users/Admins look polished.

Is there such a thing as an outbound #email provider that maintains the address database on their side? I'd love to only have opaque cookies stored in my own systems.
Over the last few weeks #hachyderm has become *much* less useful to me due to mod drama and then overreaction to spam making my instance more and more isolated. Instance federation as it stands is *not working* for a global communication medium.
We're going to end up where we are with #email: one big provider who can actually effectively manage its ecosystem ignores or freezes out smaller ecosystems because of spam and other computer-enabled bad behavior.
@thinkStory @deightonrobbie completely independent from the client you prefer, let me point out that folders/filing/sorting emails is a terrible waste of your time.
Sorting/filing requires a deterministic rule set, setting up rules is identical to making a search / filtering your #email database before you need it. Any time spent on filing is lost. Search and labeling are much more efficient.

@Vivaldi's mail concept is filter focused, allowing you to efficiently view or hide emails based on criteria they fulfill. It also supports IMAP folders of course and its labels are compatible to Thunderbird. No harm in a test run.
The newsletter is fast attaining the status of a cockroach. Apparently, it can survive any fallout from any technology.
I can’t believe that mid-2023, amid the rapid march of technology and the whirlwind of generative AI-fueled events, I find myself reflecting on the enduring value proposition of a newsletter.

- Mail is send to quarantine
- 2hrs later I'm told "we stopped this spam"
- I release email from quarantine
- I click on .csv file link
- This opens Microsoft secure log-in portal
- I wait for log-in code sent via email
- Excel opens in browser
- Excel downloads file as .xlsx
- I manually open file on PC
- I re-export file as csv

This is a great addition and gives a fairly reasonably priced package when you are 2 to 6 users. Yes, it is €/$/CHF 20/month when pre-paying 24 month ahead. But this *includes* 6 users.
Proton Mail is an incredibly user friendly and solid e-mail service, which gives you ease of mind in regards to your e-mail data. I find Proton Mail alone worth this price.
Proton Mail has an "easy switch" module, which helps you migrate your existing data easily to Proton Mail. For GMail users, it can also setup e-mail forwarding for you.
In addition Proton is expanding its service offering too. Proton Calendar might be a viable alternative for many users. And Proton Drive has really potential to become a pretty good service once the sync clients for computers arrives (Linux, macOS, Windows).
If you're curious ... just open a free Proton Mail account and test it out. It is truly worth your time to check this out.

On this day in 2004, I got Gmail. Gmail accounts were selling for $100+ on Ebay at the time. I know we all kind of hate it now, but I can't put into words just how revolutionary it was in 2004. I still have the account, the email forwards to my domain email that is not hosted on Google.

In an email notice today, GoDaddy is instructing its users to migrate from industry standard POP/IMAP to Microsoft Exchange for "enhanced" authentication. If the switch is not made by June 1, users will not be able to receive email using client apps.
