Me thinking: what the fuck do you think I do all day long?

Do these people really think that work will get done faster by putting pressure and stress on the dev team?
No, it will definitely not.

But people will be more pissed on the day job and work will result with less quality, because everyone will focus on get shit done as fast as possible and not get it done right. That’s not sustainable (I hate that word, but it’s the most suitable here).
Artificial pressure from people in leading positions is the worst thing you can do to a development team and really drains motivation. If people in a leading position can’t handle pressure and stress, but simply forward it to the dev team then they are not the right person for the job.

Two friends – one an engineer and another a businessman – were charred to death when the car in which they were returning from a party went up in flames in Sector 119 early on Saturday, trapping them inside. Fire department officials said a short circuit in the car’s air conditioner may have caused the fire, locking the doors automatically. According to them, a guard deployed at the main gate of Amrapali Platinum – where one of the car’s occupants was to get off – called up the fire department at 6.25am to inform them that a white Swift was up in flames on the nearby road.

Update for those interested on #SmartMeter installation in our #rural home. The ‘specific mesh comms hub’ #Octopus told us they had ordered is in fact the exact smart meter we already had installed so the #engineer is simply replacing like for like (!). He’s also moving it a bit… 🤯🙄 he is doubtful that this will make any difference at all. I did promise an update … but I currently have my doubts.

I assume anyone around my age (Born 1975-1985 (sometimes referred to as #xenials)) has had to explain to parents that a #chatroom is not that much different to having a #penpal, only much faster. (And not being believed.)

And how #connections made on the #internet can be proper #friendships. (And not being believed.)

And that #games actually can have #value. (And not being believed.)

Certainly there are games that are purely for fun, but there are whole #genres out there which specifically revolve around #problemsolving. SimCity, Portal, Factorio come to mind and pretty much every #factory or #logistics game trains that mental muscle.

Today I got blank looks from three #engineer (in the physical sense) when trying to explain that such games actually train and educate people - in a FUN way - BEFORE they go and mess around in your IRL system. Because they could #experiment in a forgiving environment and #learn from that.

Ugh, I spent a bunch of time figuring out how to play this from a "chord chart" and then transcribing and transposing a good chunk of it into #musescore

Except there doesn't seem to be a way to efficiently write "increasing loop length"-type songs in sheet #music notation.

You can definitely do it *by omitting things* but if you want a machine-readable representation that will play correctly you have to do what a #software #engineer would call "unroll the loop".

When I reverse #engineer a website, I usually use #BurpSuite [ and a few other custom tools ] and expect it to take a while to figure out how the site passes data between the #server and the user and how best to use that information. However, the project I am working on now does not require any of that. The site is a #JSP app last updated in 2006 that’s still in production and used by at least 30k people a month. The documentation on the site is a relic of the past, talking about how revolutionary and modern the #ZIP compression they are using is and how to open a ZIP file on #Windows XP.

Given the motto of the university I work for, it's very frustrating that the #engineer and the operators barely talk to each other.

The engs don't know what problems need solving, even when working on something adjacent. The ops don't know what the engs are on about and don't have time to learn.

Success here is mostly just showing up to meetings on both sides and being a conduit. A catalyst.

"I think they are building a tool like this. Let me see if I can make it work for you" == a 10% raise

it seems I never really had an introduction message so here goes:
