“The removal of all traces of your beloved LGBTQIA+ safe space is simply appalling and we refuse to accept this.”
Lovely alien expert 👽
(I am aware that no one cares about this fandom, but I watched Independence Day - both of them! - and I'm currently reading the books, and Dr. Brackish Okun just started living rent free in my head. It doesn't hurt one bit that he was played by Brent Spiner 😌❤️🔥)
In one account of the Biblical flood, it is said to have lasted 150 ‘intervals’, what is your favourite story that some believe as true, but is almost certainly false?
I hope I'm not being #controversial here, and I mean no offence, but I get more #Favourite stars for my daily #Wordle posts than I do for my daily posts about my #podcast listens. Whilst I'm grateful that people take notice of *any* of my posts at all, I can't but feel a little disappointed that a simple word game engenders far more interest than the efforts that go into producing the podcasts I think deserve wider appreciation. #JustSaying
So if Mastodon doesn't have an algoritham, and favouriting posts doesn't help to be seen, what is it's purpose for? Just seritonin/dopamine to the poster? (postee?) I mean, i'll take it, not much is free in this world, might as well have those little wins when you can, I was just curious if I was maybe missunderstanding?
🆕📝 New blog post:
I've added some basic #fediverse capabilities to the blog posts on my website.
@ichris I've been using reader as my main RSS reader and feel like that part of the app isn't that quite "there" yet.
Would also be interested to hear what others are doing.
You might have hundreds of followers, but there will always be that top 10+ people who consistently engage with you. Not every day or even every week. But they check in when the time is right - for them.
You know who they are. Keep them close. And reciprocate.

Tomoko Fuse is my favourite origami artist. The person whose work most inspires me to fold paper.
This short (4m30s) film is about her 'infinite origami' series.
Who is your Tomoko Fuse?
And I guess we have to tell everybody that #interaction really makes our day, be it a #favourite, a #boost or a #reply
Yeah, we #write but we also like to hear what #readers think about it. Interaction with the #reader is part of #writerslife in this new millennium. 😜 You see what I did there, aye?
#Welcome to the newcomers! It can be a bit overwhelming to start but you'll pick it up quickly!
Post an #introduction with some hash tags, #boost posts you want to share, #favourite posts you want to acknowledge, follow and unfollow liberally, and you can follow hashtags to find others with similar interests. More on my pinned posts, and as always, feel free to ask for help! #Newbies #HowTo

In contrast to last night's almost urban view here's what I submitted to #BBCweatherwatchers this morning from the other side of the house when my thermometer was showing 19.5°c.
Unfortunately, many of them have passed away. But there are always new authors to discover, let me know who is your current favourite☺️
I do really love and appreciate the feedback I get by #boost and #favourite for my #photography but I feel I could learn and improve my skills a lot more with some more constructive #criticism, which seems a really hard thing to get here.
To remind or rather encourage people to do so where I feel myself I could improve, I now introduce the #CriticsWelcome tag to according pictures I post.
A toughie but one of my favourite mountain days to date 😍. Rhinog Fawr.
These wild mountains north of Dolgellau have some of the UKs roughest terrain and are well off any beaten path.

Here it is. The latest track I’ve released, and the first video clip I’ve ever done. It is, of course, Space Pop (feat. Kaaren Elizabeth Smith).
Kaaren is a long time friend who I used to co-host a weekly karaoke night with, at a small town bar called The Reef back in the 90’s!!
One of the goals of the Dgar Project is to write new songs, and record them with friends that I have some kind of music related history with. When I got the opportunity to record with Kaaren, I took it.
Kaaren, on the day, was amazing. I sent her a demo of the track to practice and listen to a week earlier. She did some really quirky takes. It’s all her voice too. There’s no auto-tune. There’s no pitch correction. It’s all her. So much fun.
The “doo doo doos” she does was originally a melody I played on a distorted electric guitar. On one of the takes she does these “doo doo doos” over the riff. It just sounds so cool, I replaced my guitar track with her vocals.
I also hope you enjoy my #Blender project that makes the video in all its 8 frames-per-second glory!
Please find and give the song a “favourite” on your preferred streaming platform if you enjoy it.
Thanks for all your support! 🙏
I love you all!!
30 years old today, #Babylon5 is one of my all time #favourite #TV #series. Especially strong in seasons 2 and 3, it included some incredible performances, heartbreaking storylines, and one of the first TV series to have an overarching arc plot. Highly recommended. #ScienceFiction #SciFi #90sTV #Anniversary #Space #Storytelling #30Years #ThirtyYears
Are you new here on this #FollowFriday? Check out these basic pro tips, then comment with a 1-2 sentence summary of yourself to see if anyone has that in common and wants to follow you!
⚰️ Always include alt text on your photos (read this if you're not sure what it is/how to write it: https://supercooldesign.co.uk/blog/how-to-write-good-alt-text ) FYI some people won't share your posts if you don't!
⚰️ A "favourite" is a "like," and is only visible to you and the OP. They don't affect any algorithms, they simply make people happy to know you saw and appreciated their post. So don't be stingy! Make it rain!
⚰️ A "boost" is a "share," and they help others discover new people to follow. If you see a post you think others would like or benefit from seeing, boost it! This is how we connect across instances.
⚰️ Try to be considerate with content warnings and hiding sensitive images. If your post contains a potential trigger, make sure people have to opt in to see it.
Now, you may want to follow me if you like: books, cats, dogs, learning interesting things about funerals and dead bodies, weird and unusual stuff, cars, and memes.
Tell me who should follow you and why!
The clear #bluesky, a few #clouds up on high, the #calm #sea and bright #sunshine. This view from near #coralbeachskye was taken on #newyearsday. If you look you will see the distant mountains on the #IsleOfHarris are covered with snow. It was 0°C. I use my #iphone to take pictures. We are all #photographers now. We are all #editors and #copywriters and #publishers. Thanks to those of you who #favourite and #reboost. It means a great deal. Thanks for sharing. Really. #isleofskye #LoveScotland
I personally feel one has to be careful with #boosts because they can annoy one's followers.
#Mastodon is different to other platforms in that there is no algorithm or analytics. Getting the most likes on a post means little here.
I made another short video that covers how these features work as well as when you should use each one.
@mlinssen If every #Mastodon user made it their month's work to get two #Twitter users setup for #TwitterMigration, then passed the torch onto them to do the same it could cause some serious movement.
⭐️ favourite: I want to tell the author I liked what they posted. Maybe it made me laugh, or it was useful to me. Sometimes I just mean “seen”.
🔁 boost: I endorse that message, and I want it to spread to more people. It’s probably either useful or interesting/funny. This is something I would forward to a friend.
🔖 bookmark: I might want to get back to this in the future.
(Don’t hit me if this obvious! 😅)
Tip to the new #twitterrefugees:
Okay because my friends from other platforms have asked for advice - here are my #tips for Mastodon
1. Read the rules on your server and follow them.
2. Post what you want but please use the content warning (CW) ability
3. Use Alt text / image descriptions and #CapitalizeFirstLetters in #Hashtags
4. Look at your local feed and #Follow #Boost #Favourite posts / people you like
5. Post / Pin an #Introduction about yourself and use hashtags
6. If you've got questions, ASK.
So it's been 1 week on Mastodon for me. Things I've learned so far:
Do an #introduction post, fill it with hashtags of interests.
Have something in your bio so people can read about you
Follow (& unfollow) liberally
Use alt text on images
Use #bookmark to save threads you want to follow
#CW subjects like politics, sports or common triggers
Replying to yourself creates a #thread
I dont know, but...
#Mastodon directive °N12345 😅 :
Anyway, try to search by #hashtag... and you can try to make your language German in preferences (if not now), so you can see more posts in German language.
Check out my works at Ashu's Art https://ashus.art/collections.
Another regular reminder. Marking posts as #favourite (aka likes) work different than on Twitter and Instagram.
On Twitter you can view someone's liked tweets on their profile. The original poster and sometimes your followers get a notification that you liked their/a tweet.
On Mastodon the original poster gets a mention of your #favourites, people on your server/instance can see (if they look carefully) it under the favourite icon directly under the post and you can see posts that you have marked as favourite on your personal favourites page/tab.
On Twitter and Instagram favourites/ #likes are fed to the hungry algorithm. 👾 On Mastodon we have no algorithm, only a simple way to calculate trending posts and hashtags, if your server enabled this.
