Monochrome commission for Vix! This one is kind of special for me because it was done back when my tablet got busted during the pandemic. So it was Kind of an exercise of problem solving and painting with no pressure sensitivity. I laid out everything with the selection tools and then detailed by the following method: Temporal layer-> Hard stroke -> cut down the shape with the hard brush to refine it-> soften edge with an airbrush -> merge down temporal layer; It really opened my eyes to the fact that painting is just careful control of value shape and edges. Sometimes i get the urge to refine these 2020- 2021 works but nahh they are important to me as they are.

This week I've mainly been reading, No. 69. Jane Hennigan' post-pandemic partial remix of the Handmaid's Tail, Moths (2023) is a great read. Focussing on a moth-borne disease that effects/kills only men, she looks at the #female society developed in its aftermath & how they treat the remaining #men. Its a lively read & explores the rise of a new governance regime in the margins of its main narrative. Another good bit of female-perspective #sciencefiction with a sequel preparing end.

We already (sort of) know this, but the statistics are still shocking:
in 2022, only 7% of #female victims of violent crime were attacked by a stranger.;
and 'only' 15% of #rapes were committed by a stranger.
The danger to #women is from men they already know (ex-partners are a key category) and often in the home, not on the streets.

#Twitter Inc has been hit with another lawsuit stemming from the recent purging of half its workforce, this one accusing the social media company of disproportionately targeting #female employees for #layoffs.
The proposed class action filed late on Wednesday in San Francisco federal court said that after Twitter was taken over by Elon Musk, the world's richest person, it laid off 57% of its female workers compared to 47% of men.
