In 2019 I worked as co-producer on a short film, Blank Shores. Key pieces of the film were shot at No.1 the Thames, an old grain tower off the coast of Kent that's just been sold. It's a fantastic location which brought with it some interesting challenges for filming and gave us stories to remember.

The film Tautuktavuk (What We See) has won the Amplify Voices Award at #TIFF.

Just downloaded the Blackmagic Design camera app, and I have to say I'll never again miss Filmic Pro, which is now subscription only. I don't immediately see how to record in any kind of LOG color scheme, but since the app does allow ProRes 422 10 bit recording, I suppose it's just a matter of importing a LUT that goes from Rec.709 to something like Sony Slog, or Arri, or.... I'll be playing with this in the coming days and will post my results. I once again applaud #Blackmagic. #Filmmaking

Also, it's an excellent study for filmmakers. Besides the 92-minute single-shot ( !! ) The director has really made the most of the story. He started with a 22-minute short film, got the feature made and distributed, and now a limited series is in post-production. He's done a tonne of interviews on his process. When modern day filmmakers make period films, they regularly go to epic lengths to successfully replicate the visual LOOK of films of the period they’re going for. I just wish someone would try that with the style of the acting. This wouldn’t obviously work for everything, but I imagine it could be really fun!

Many years ago I made a short film with my kids. My 5 and 7 year olds helped me build a small city for my 1 year old to terrorize like Godzilla.
It’s called “Notiszilla” because the baby’s name is Otis and a family-friend’s kid was calling him “Notis.”
The film catches Otis’ first sight of the city. He was allowed to roam free without guidance in a single take. It’s set to John Zorn’s “Kol Nidre.”

It took me a long, long time to learn how to give and to take creative notes. There should be a required class on this subject taught by experts! It would have saved me a lot of grief, and it would have made me a lot more likable in my chosen career! Or at least less UN-likable!
(And, to be sure, goodness knows there are people out there you absolutely would NOT want teaching such a class!!!)
