CHILD’S PLAY 2 is an incredible display of practical effects. It’s a sharp and gritty film. The cinematography borrows from some of the greats in horror cinema. The combined styles totally work. This movie is so technically sharp. It’s full of creepy suspense. Chucky is such an evil little shit. I really enjoyed this one.

Out of these four, "A Sad Story" has to be mentioned because wow. Especially in the current moment, this dark and dystopian world really resonates. And I'm a sucker for a good quest movie.
But honestly, "Lollygag" was delightfully morbid and pastel. I love a film willing to draw thick crayon lines between sex and death.

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES has my favorite opening. I love they went back to that graveyard. This is the movie where Jason really transcends into a true monster. The opening montage is my favorite of the series. I love the James Bond rip-off credit screen. It’s a fast paced, high body count slasher.

FRIDAY THE 13TH: A NEW BEGINNING is a really good movie. I think people just get upset over the fact that it isn’t Jason. The film has all the sensibilities and charm of the previous installments. Every death scene is violent and sharp. I like the ending swerve. The misdirection was fantastic.

I watched this movie this week. Golden Salamander is a decent thriller with moments of genuine suspense. Trevor Howard, as an archeologist who stumbles upon gunrunning, is as solid as ever while Anouk Aimee in an early role is an attractive heroine. The location filming in Tunisia adds to the atmosphere. Wilfred Hyde-White features as a bar pianist (did every thriller c1950 feature a bar pianist?! 🤔). Capital entertainment, as they used to say.

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART IV: THE FINAL CHAPTER (1984) has an awesome opening montage. The pacing in this one is a little slow. It makes up with it for some excellent kill scenes. This is peak Tom Savini. Once this thing gets going, it’s a series of frenetic moments. The early films in the franchise are just so strong.

THE EVIL DEAD is probably one of my absolute favorites. While I do give the edge to 2, it’s only because I enjoy the humor. This movie was a landmark in horror. It was a cutting edge film for 83 that still looks great today. The film feels just as unhinged and chaotic as the first time I watched it.

I think this is not a terrible list. In fact, all the #films listed are at least very good, and there are some films on it that I would include as "#Movies That Are Considered To Be Almost Flawless." BUT, it suffers greatly from being too focused on recently films, it suffers from missing so many films, many of which are more "flawless" and better than many on the list, and there's not nearly enough foreign films.

PIECES is exactly the kind of slaughterhouse I want in a slasher. While it does suffer from awful dubbing and a plot requiring some giant leaps, it’s still great. The cinematography is tight. The chainsaw violence is out of this world. Somehow a renowned (and recognizable) tennis champion makes the perfect undercover agent. Definite points for awesome gore.

John Wayne takes a break during the filming of ‘The Undefeated’. (1969). Wayne’s biographer Michael Munn chronicled Wayne’s drinking habits. According to Sam O’Steen’s memoir, Cut to the Chase, studio directors knew to shoot Wayne’s scenes before noon, because by afternoon he “was a mean drunk.”

THE PACT (2012) is a low budget haunting that really does its job. While the movie probably won’t be winning any awards, it’s still an awesome ghost story. It’s definitely worth a watch. There’s also a wonderful twist.

Il y a quelques jours j'ai regardé Multiverse (2019), un petit film de SF sans trop de prétention qui parle, comme son nom l'indique, d'univers parallèles.
Dans ce film, une des protagonistes et sa mère sont sourdes. Ça m'a agréablement surpris·e de voir un film qui, sans que ce soit le sujet principal, mette en avant ce #handicap.
