Hi folks, I intend to do the very occasional tech and computing post on this here blog as outlined in the earlier post “A Tech Blog Reborn” which was originally published on my “Pop’s Tech and Computing Blog” which has of course since been integrated into this blog site as a category, I hope that makes sense 😁
So I decided it was probably a good time to let you know what my laptop / computer situation is at this point in time.
I currently have four working laptop computers, this doesn’t mean I’m wealthy, the truth is that I bought three of the four on ebay as cheap second hand laptops two of which didn’t have an operating system on them when I bought them. The four laptops I have all have different operating systems on them, one is a Chromebook with ChromeOS, one is a Linux laptop with Ubuntu installed (at the moment), the third is a Windows 10 laptop. The fourth which is my bedroom laptop, so doesn’t get used an awful lot, is a ChromeOS Flex based laptop which is of course a different flavour of ChromeOS but I’ll go into that later.
These four different laptops are described in more detail below.
Chromebook – My “Chromebook” is the only laptop I bought brand new already loaded with “ChromeOS“, I have had it for some time now and it is probably my favourite. There’s little not to love about a decent Chromebook, ChromeOS is nowadays a fully fledged OS unlike the early days when it was little more than a browser. ChromeOS on a decent Chromebook can do more or less everything I require of it running browser based programs and Chrome apps, add to this the fact that it runs Android apps as well as having a Debian Linux terminal and is capable of running lots of Linux apps, all it lacks is the ability to easily run Windows software and that really doesn’t bother me.
My Chromebook is the “ASUS ChromeBook Flip C434” which has a touch screen, the screen flips right over converting it into a tablet if I want. It has an Intel Core M3-8100Y Processor 1.1GHz processor, 4GB of ram, storage is a 128GB eMMC and it has a full hd 14 in touchscreen.
Linux Laptop – My Linux laptop was bought from ebay very cheaply as a second hand laptop with no operating system installed. As soon as I got it I installed “Ubuntu” Linux from a USB and added the “KDE Plasma Desktop“. I also installed a number of my favourite Linux apps on it. I’ve had Ubuntu installed for sometime now and have been fairly happy with it and the KDE desktop but I’m itching for a change, I feel the need to try a new flavour of Linux and I’m thinking of swapping to “Fedora Linux” and giving that a try. If, or more likely when I begin that change I’ll keep you informed.
As I said my Linux laptop was a cheapie from ebay with no OS installed. It is a Dell Latitude 5480 Laptop with an Intel Dual Core i5-6300U 6th Gen Processor with a speed of 2.50 GHz and a 3MB Cache Memory, it has 8GB of ram and it’s storage is a 500GB HD with a 14 inch screen.
Windows 10 Laptop – My Windows 10 laptop was also a cheap second hand buy from ebay although this time it did have Windows 10 installed. The laptop is a Samsung Series 5 laptop with an Intel Core i5 2nd Gen Processor running at a Speed of 2.4 GHz, it has 8GB of ram, a 930GB HD SSHD (Solid State Hybrid Drive) and a 15.6 inch screen. It actually runs Windows 10 quite amply for my usage.
ChromeOS Flex Laptop – This laptop was once again bought from ebay very cheaply as a second hand laptop with no operating system installed. I decided I wanted a nice simple laptop for my bedroom in case I wanted to use one while in bed so I installed “ChromeOS Flex” onto it from USB. Flex is a version of ChromeOS designed to be installed onto other laptops to convert them into Chromebooks. It is more or less exactly the same as original ChromeOS except it doesn’t run Android apps, so far, which is of course a loss but it still runs everything else a Chromebook does including Linux and it’s apps.
My ChromeOS Flex laptop is a Dell Latitude 5480 Laptop with an Intel Dual Core i5-6300U 6th Gen Processor with a speed of 2.50 GHz and a 3MB Cache Memory, it has 8GB of ram and it’s storage is a 500GB HD with a 14 inch screen, all just the same as my Linux Laptop.

I arrived at the conclusion naturally that the easiest path was to always start by doing a Left justification, then flip the whitespace for Right justification, or normalize whitespace across the rune array for full. I still have to do center which is going to be interesting.

For the love of TUIs
So I may have started rewriting the abandoned #golang #termui originally by Gizak (gizak/termui) to use #tcell for the backend and implementing containers with #flex formatting as well as some other planned features. It's a ground up rewrite largely since I changed how some core fundamentals work but there is still a lot of gizak in there in spirit.
My fork rewrite is tentatively called Tooey and it is not ready for any level of consumption yet.

The body is fixed size (show by the border) but display:grid. Its only children are a header (that takes whatever space) and a main elements, that should fill the remaining free space.
main is a display:flex with flex-direction: column an flex-wrap: wrap, but instead of seeing things wrap to the next columns, everything just get piled on, overflowing the body.
