What's the dumbest "stack" you can come up with? Go!

- GOD: Golang OSX DynamoDB (for running a really basic AWS service really expensively)

- CAAT: Cassandra Apache Alpine TeX (academia gone wild in containerized Linux!)

Web development comprise of the front end and back end. Front end is responsible for the user interface (UI) of a website or web application. Back end is responsible for the functionality of a website or web application.

Back end is responsible for the functionality of a website or web application. This includes storing and retrieving data, processing user requests, and generating the HTML that is sent to the user's browser.

Top web development Languages for 2023.

For many full-stack engineers, picking a language to begin a learning curve might be challenging. Which languages for web development are useful to get hired at a top organization is a prevalent issue on everyone's mind. A lot of tech companies are in desperate need of full-stack web engineers with real expertise.

Had a great time at last night's #OutInTech meetup as part of #ptw2023! Met some great people!

Today in a bit I will be going to the NET/WORK job fair to try to meet more people and ideally get myself a new job. If you are hiring a #fullstack #softwareengineer especially working on #civictech or #geospatial solutions, hit me up! #fedihire

Working fullstack in all kinds of languages sometimes leads me to momentarily forget the dependencies of each project. e.g. how was it that we run the tests in this project or what are the right commands to install dependencies, do I need to start a docker compose before running the app etc.

That's why most of my projects include a Makefile where I always keep a standard set of tasks: make setup, make dev, make test, make build, make publish + additional tasks as the project requires.

Next.js

Finally People are realizing what Next.js has become:

I started to realise this last year & was already worried about Next.js future.

I am relieved that these discussions have come out into the open.

I am tired of repeating this but there is no silver bullet as Software Engineers web developers we have to decide what is best for the architecture.

It is being really really hard for me to stop thinking during my free days about my #fullstack job and the tasks that we are currently developing. Maybe this is related with seing myself as a #developer that has a lot to learn yet, with my bosses believing too much on me, short delivery dates, teammates that are not working as hard as they should be doing with the time we have... I do not know, but this is making me to have a really hard time. During the working days and the "resting days"

Something that makes me sad is seing that, after a year as a juniot #fullstack dev touching a little bit of #Angular (I am more a backend guy), when I check a good Angular tutorial/course, I see that I have 0 idea about this framework. I mean, it is really powerfull and most of the times you just end up doing a mixture of Angular and TS functions instead of using Angular properly because you have no #code review, no senior that can rate your code and make you learn about what you are doing.

Orientation for the #FullStack #WebDev course went really well. (https://www.coderacademy.edu.au) It’s going to be full on, but I think that’s a good thing for me right now and it was funny being a student rather than a teacher. They said things I remember saying to my students - like do your prep work before class… Keep on top of things… Ask for help earlier rather than later… You’re going to make mistakes, learn from them… Can I take my own advice? I might not have a job to go back to I’ve heard on the grapevine… First lecture Thursday night! Thanks for the encouragement everyone ❤️☕️🔔💪

I'm gonna experiment with using nothing but an array (actually an iterable) of tuples for key-value pairs.

No idea as to what I'm gaining, but one thing is for sure: it forces me to think in terms of insertion order on the server side, especially when writing in Go.

Insertion order is in no way guaranteed in Go maps #Go #golang #JavaScript #json #TypeScript #fullstack

Sigh, this is my life as a broad ranging #fullstack dev fighting impractical solutions produced by engineers who only have specialized knowledge.

The problem: Piss poor deployment practices causing user uploaded images to be lost.

The solution: Implement a file hashing DB to track image changes. 🤦‍♂️

Me: You literally only need to stop overwriting the damn images directory on every deployment. Fix the stupid process instead of solving it with solutions more complex than the problem.

What do you prefer for writing code in multiple programming languages?

One extensible text editor (e.g. VS Code, Atom, etc.) with a set of plugins for each language (e.g. Eclipse, PhpStorm, etc.)?
Or one full-blown and specialized IDE for each programming language?

What else to include in an #introduction post? Hot takes? Alright then; FFIX is better than VI and VII, "Wind Scene (600 AD)" is the best game music ever composed, and Spirits Within wasn't thaaaaatt bad.

Screenshot from my game beats shows a scene with the player on the left who just hit a skeleton which is in the middle of it's death animation.
Screenshot from my game Echo showing the player slime swinging its sword. The environment around it shows the walls of the ruins the player is in and a floor panel.
Screenshot of my game Slime Battle Royale. The image only shows a room in the game with 3 different slimes on a tiled floor
Screenshot from my game Droplet that shows a scene from the game with several white and black circles across a tiled background.

Interesting article from a few years back. I feel like the concepts in it are especially important and relevant even now, with the continuing and almost constant advancements and changes in the web (and tech in general). The writer goes through a quick history of web development concepts starting from the 1990s (back when I started, as well). She explains since there are always new frameworks and aspects being added to the web, that there is no possible way to learn everything, but that these aspects make for a field with lots of opportunities for people who always love to learn new things.

@js @berkes @simon Can't say I'm much of a #NodeJS / #JavaScript hacker and have never written a line of #TypeScript or used #Deno. Took a six-month #FullStack #WebDev #BootCamp three years ago but my knowledge atrophied as I never used it at work where I typically sling #Perl code. (Yes, Perl.)

But I've been in the game long enough to suss out the basics in other languages as long as the code uses familiar paradigms, the abstractions aren't piled on too thick, and the syntax isn't too weird.

Now that our instance has a higher size limit for toots, time for a re-#introduction. This time with more hashtags!

Hi! I'm Jeff. :blobcatwave:

I've been a software engineer since around 1999 I guess. I started with #WebDev back in the early days of applets, DHTML, and Flash. I've since moved on to #FullStack work on just about anything that has a compiler or an interpreter. I've even recently dabbled in #PCB design and #3DPrinting.

My software specialties are in high performance computing #HPC, #GPGPU, and #ComputationalChemistry. Although I usually enjoy any programming problem with a good challenge to it. I spent waaay too much time in school and got all the degrees in computer science. I still work in #academia part-time writing research software.

My favorite programming languages at the moment are #Rust and #Kotlin. Although, I've spent a lot of time writing #Javascript lately. With the right tooling it's not completely terrible.

More recently, I've been interested in online #privacy, #cryptography, and #SocialNetworks.
