I played the entire original #Gameboy #Kirby game without knowing you could steal powers. Accidentally pressed down after sucking in an enemy on a subsequent playthrough and marveled at how easy the game was after that.

So I bit the bullet and bought into the Analogue Pocket hype. Got a yellow one from their most recent solid color series, plan to investigate making the rear look like a Famicom cartridge.
My main motivation was to have a quick cycle for testing my own Gameboy homebrew on hardware with a real link cable, something you can't do easily with an emulator.

Possibly the first homebrew release to ever use the physical keyboard on this console. The MegaDuck is a slightly altered Game Boy clone, and there is even this weird and delightful laptop version.
With some reverse engineering it's now possible to use some of it's special features.

The 2nd Pokemon TCG game on the Gameboy, which only Japan got. It features a female protagonist (Mint) alongside the male protagonist (Mark) who is a returning character. I guess this technically makes her the second female protagonist in the Pokemon games? Unless there are other protagonists I am unaware of, which definitely could be the case.

When I was 11, I had an emergency appendectomy. While I was recovering, my dad gave me a #GameBoy Color, which had _just_ come out, and was _the_ coolest gadget. This year, I pulled it out of storage and it was ruined. The batteries had exploded and corroded everything. Well for my birthday this year, my dad gave me _another_ Game Boy Color, specifically to harvest the parts from and fix mine. Here it is! Wooooooow I just had a monster nostalgia bomb. I was checking out the games in the Konami Collection Vol 2 for #gameboy color when I came across “Block Game”. This was actually #Quarth, a game I played a LOT of on my original DMG back in like 1989-90 or so. The music and the graphics made me feel like a little kid again. Amazing. Here it is on my resto/mod DMG in its original form. #retrogaming
Block game happened to be the name of a game Konami released back in like 1979 I believe.

Finally picked up the parts to resto/mod one of my 2 #Gameboy Colors. I think this is the goat for Gameboy games. As always, I get all my parts from Heldheld Legend. This particular GBC got new capacitors, new power board, new speaker, buttons, shell and new screen. Screen is a little bigger than the stock one. I’m a sucker for translucent shells but the classic grey called to me haha. Backlit GBC logo can be different colors too. #retrogaming

It's literally just a Gameboy ROM running in an emulator, but it's purpose is only to share some functions with my main game and put tick boxes on the screen if calling the functions gives expected results.

And now for something slightly different:
I just finished Wendy: Every Witch Way. The game is more known for being somewhat rare rather than its gameplay. It's a short (1 to 2 hours) platformer feature invertible gravity. Very easy overall. What's standing out is the main character with cute and upbeat sprite animations. Perfect for taking a short break from bigger games/things.
This week I took some time to get my old Gameboy Zero up and running again. Inside is a Raspberry Pi Zero and a small RP2040 board powering the Neopixel strip that illuminates the case while charging. I also designed and 3d printed a custom stand so I can display it without falling over every three seconds!

For a while now, I have been concerned about a trend I see surrounding the public discussion of homebrew titles within the #gameboy scene. This problem is a serious lack of critical reviews of commercial GB homebrew titles.

Either way, this tutorial was great to understand what the Gameboy CPU is doing and why some of its limitations and capabilities exist.
