#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 38. In which the mystery of the namespace errors is resolved.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 37. In which we look at direc85's patched gcc and test how it works.
Theo the Leopard Gecko, ruler of all he can see, standing on his tiny hind legs, leaning on a log, starting out the front of his glass enclosure. Watching hoomyns in their hoomynarium. In return for his keeping us safe, we lavish him with edibles delights, clean his kingdom and generally fawn over his excellence. Even cleaning up his royal poo is a gift he keeps on giving.

#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 35. In which I finally get around to testing out direc85's patched gcc. Will it work? Read the post to find out!
@RenewedRebecca I agree. We've got a near monoculture now of web rendering engines; apart from Firefox's #Gecko, there's the #WebKit based Safari, and on another branch of the same lineage, Chrome's Blink. Between them they account for the vast, vast proportion of rendering engine code executing daily.
The #Servo engine abandoned by #Mozilla was transferred to the Linux Foundation Europe this year: https://servo.org/about/ and seems to be thriving, which is excellent to see! https://github.com/servo/servo/graphs/contributors?from=2022-09-13&to=2023-09-21&type=c
Ladybird's #LibWeb is getting most of the public attention, though. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SerenityOS#Features I think the future looks bright, as long as Andreas isn't made to feel he's carrying the future of the web on his shoulders! @awesomekling ❤️ is a browser dev expert and he's built an incredible community.
@PlutoisAPlanet @Teh404Gal @barnibu
Well, I remember they required #Trident when it was #Windows-Exclusive and that modding some files to make it load #Gecko instead on #Wine would make it run on #Linux before they even supported #macOS...
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 35. In which we experiment with partial builds, tackle graphics, update strings and generally deal with a lot of upstream refactoring.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 34. In which we look at graphics and the #EGL (Embedded-System Graphics Library) display, plus ICU, cbindgen and GCC.

#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 33. In which we make some really good progress converting errors into compilable (not necessarily working!) code.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 32. In which historical mistakes (from yesterday) are fixed.
Thing is just so cute! 🥰 I love taking these 'selfie' pictures of them 🤭

#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 31. In which refactoring flows from upstream downwards.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 30. In which I start tackling my untechnical-debt.
I have 5 adopts up for auction on FA!
I'm so happy with the designs, i hope yall like then as much as I do!!!

#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 29. In which we tackle private session, forward and back refactoring. Which sounds way more dramatic than it actually is!
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 28. In which we discuss git workarounds and more upstream refactoring.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 27. In which disaster strikes (human error) but the day is salvaged by useful advice from thigg..
A 'green gecko' (Naultinus sp.), one of Aotearoa New Zealand's nine endemic Naultinus species.
This gravid female was unbelievably vibrant green, and without a doubt the most strikingly beautiful lizard I've ever seen!

#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 26. In which the debugger helps us identify an Open override.
Say hello to my wall #gecko !
Well actually he/she is not my gecko. I can't really call him/her my neighbor as he/she lives at my place but I am not sure I can call him/her my roomie either as he/she is living outside, on my rooftop terrasse.
I have that pile of old wood planks and palettes bits sitting in the corner from which I built some outdoor furniture. It is kind of an eyesore. I was about to clean that up when I realized that gecko called home a small gap between the wall and a plank leaning against it, usually waiting for the evening to go hunting insects. Almost every time I check he/she is there. We humans already destroyed so much other doecies habitat so I guess I'll leave all this stuff in that corner. He/she is the perfect roomie. Stays quiet, don't bring annoying friends, doesn't steal my food.

#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 25. In which progress is slow, steady and dull but real.
And with special thanks today to @b100dian for the useful input!
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 24. In which we slowly trickle upstream changes down into the EmbedLite codebase.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 23. In which we crack open the debugger!
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 22. In which (spoiler alert!) the pipeline code finally gets through the build!
I never thought I'd need to know this. #blog #newmexico #gecko #lizard #rescue https://amberfoxxmysteries.com/2023/09/07/how-to-rescue-a-gecko-stuck-in-a-roach-trap/

#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 21. In which we apply the final (maybe final?) changes needed to get the rendering pipeline to compile.
Three weeks now and still no end in sight.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 20. In which we consider changing tack with the rendering pipeline.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 19. In which we look at this whole rendering thing again.
Lots of work, but only a short post.
At the beginning of the pandemic, this little guy was hiding in my home, between the rolls of paper towels. He was a welcome guest, seeing as how we were all locked down and isolated. I'd still appreciate the occasional lizard guest

#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 18. In which we look at GLScreenBuffer, then look at SwapChain, then squint really hard in the hope they can be made to look the same.
Co-habitant. Came in during the night to get away from the torrential downpour.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 17. In which we're tackling things head on. Burnout, the removal of VarCache (for preferences) and the dawning realisation that GLScreenBuffer has been completely removed!
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 16. In which the build is blocked by the #Linux kernel headers.

#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 15. In which we consider the Meta Object Compiler and handle upstream's renaming of nsIdleService.
Kudos to anyone still following but also a warning: we're a long way yet from any conclusion!
In today’s blog post I shared my art of (& a few fun facts about) a Western Banded Gecko hiding in our garage & a Gila Woodpecker nesting in a Saguaro.

#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 14. In which it looks like we finally hit an error in the code rather than the build process.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 13. In which we look into failing #Rust components, plus get useful advice from @fabrice, nephros, direct85 and thigg.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 12. In which we hit a compiler segmentation fault (yes, you read that right).
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 10. In which we go on a long train journey; get advice from mal on fixing hash tables; get help from @fabrice on fixing string literals; and have a bit of time left over to fix font initialisation.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 9. In which we go in search of missing header files.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 8. In which we (eventually) discuss the topic of Software Archaeology.
From time to time we have a (native) Western Banded Gecko hanging out in our (Tucson, AZ, USA) garage - so cute! 😍 Their tails can easily break off to avoid predation but the tails grow back quickly. Here’s one I painted for my latest Perpetual Journal entry!

#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 7. In which the Sailfish Community solves the libclang mystery and we fix up our IPDL files.
Yesterday night we had a little visitor in the bathroom: a small house gecko 😅
It took a moment to catch it and bring it outside.
Here is a photo of it after catching it inside a glass.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 6. In which I build some dependencies, and discover the world is full of generous and helpful people!
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 5. In which we reticulate splines and progress from build configuration to build proper.
#SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 4. In which we add more build flags and meet the Netscape Portable Runtime for the first time.
Caught a cool close up of Inda climbing on the glass. She’s a pretty interesting pet and I’ve had her for almost eight years. without predators they can live into their thirties. #pets #pet #PetsOfMastodon #lizard #gecko
#SailfishOS #Gecko developer diary Day 3. In which I spend the entire five hour train journey from London to Glasgow manually applying a single patch.
Some painterly stuff happening again, with an onlooker #watercolor #painting #hawaii #gecko
#SailfishOS #Gecko development diary Day 2. In which the first real fixes are made, albeit some really simple ones to start with.
#SailfishOS #gecko developer diary Day 1, in which the ESR 91 build starts, but not much else.

A fun thing I drew for myself today! My girl Amber can shapeshift into any species she pleases, so she has a few defaults she likes to fall back on for special occasions. A favorite of hers for warm, basking weather is her leopard gecko form! Her husband Butch has affectionately nicknamed this form "Sunnybutt"~

Madagascar Gold Dust Day Geckos. The male is moulting - dark flaky skin. They are primarily diurnal and aggressively territorial, & will eat the young, & less aggressive Mourning & House Geckos, which are mostly nocturnal. Gecko tails will detach & wiggle when caught, to allow escape, thus you see tailless ones. They regrow tails, but with cartilage instead of bone. #Gecko
@ljunge I know @igalia took over Firefox Reality and is now developing that as @WolvicXR: https://www.igalia.com/2022/02/03/Introducing-Wolvic.html
But you’re referring to WebXR within the browser itself, right?
An interesting aspect there: The #SteamDeck / #SteamOS uses #Gecko (and as such is by far the most successful handheld with a Gecko browser as standard) and Valve / Steam is pretty big on VR, so maybe Valve / Steam could double down on WebXR together with eg @igalia and make it happen independently of @mozilla
I put ko in #gecko
Was thinking about getting a Leopard #Gecko for my 8yo son until I saw I basically need to touch bugs all the time. No thanks. It seems like Crested Geckos just need some power and water mixture.
Anyone else own lizards?

I drew this little fat tailed gecko a while back. He was great fun to draw, especially the texture of his skin and I'm happy to say that he found a new home.
