At comic-con there were lots of other geeks and artists dressed up that I wanted to chat with more, but they weren't really talking to each other. Most of the venue and interactions had to be about selling something.

That's what capitalism does. It takes a chance to make meaningful connections and turns it into a storefront.

⚠️ sometimes things that should _always_ have a user, don't. For example. A Review or a Comment have to be left by a user, even if that user is a bot, but sometimes the returned data doesn't contain it.

Apparently, when a user deletes their account, GitHub leaves dangling pointers. You'll see this in the UI, but on the back end it's just data with an impossible state. They don't repoint things to this "ghost" account

It could be a wide variety of topics, ranging from underappreciated deep sea animals to collectible coins to sailings ships to comic book history to heritage apple orchards to... whatever. Really. One of my favorite things to do is listen to people talk about things they adore.

our codebase has "snippets" (don't ask ) that have a hardcoded central list.

if you add or delete to the list (which of course you need to from time to time) multiple tests fail because they're testing "magic numbers" that are just counting subsets of the list.

don't do this.
Make meaningful tests. Don't test that a list contains 96 items. Test that a FUNCTION returns items matching the criteria that generated it. Give the function TEST input and then test how it response.

adding a "Power Up" isn't an option in my use case and they don't have a reasonable API for users so ... screen scraping, but calling the url of a "card" with your cookie doesn't actually get you the content of the card. ARGH

I can figure this out, but i'd rather not reinvent the wheel if i don't have to.

The designers of This old stove decided that perfectly symmetrical knobs with a line of paint was the best choice. It wasn't. With repeated cleaning over the years, the paint has worn off. The interim fix was to use a marker to replace the paint, but that needs to be refreshed every so often. So I decided to fix the problem once and for all. It was only after the first print that I realized that it's more of a Star Trek knob.

Ran this test print past my wife and she said "make it so!"; I told her every time she uses a knob, from now on she has to say "engage!"
