@AllThoseBefore I think I may have knocked down a long-standing brick wall ... The DNA evidence all stacks up, but I am not yet quite satisfied that I have enough documentary evidence to be fully confident in my conclusion. It intuitively feels right, but unfortunately, intuition doesn't constitute evidence #FamilyHistory #Genealogy
Through historical records and DNA I’ve established that Barbara Aubrey of Glamorgan and Pennsylvania is my 9 x great grandmother. Barbara is a “gateway ancestor” - her lineage connects to noble pedigrees. Here’s the story of one of our ancestors, Eleanor Holland.

I spend little time on mastodon these weeks because there were, and will be, many informal care tasks . Normally doing research helps me to relax, but unfortunately right now I am waiting for documents to be scanned about The Hague theater and fair in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Very belatedly - only tracing this since early 1980s! - spotted the 1871 Wilton Dean #census gives more accurate birthplace for my ggg-granny Margaret Cavers, Mrs Hall. Other records say Stow parish, Midlothian or Selkirkshire. This census says Fairnehirst, Midlothian i.e. farm Ferniehirst near Torwoodlee. There's no surviving record of her baptism. Her parents moved around a lot - her dad Thomas was a shepherd. Her widowed mum Helen ended up back at #Hawick. #genealogy #FamilyHistory #Scotland

What people think #genealogy is like: Grammas telling stories, and fancy charts that look like trees.
What it's actually like: Realizing that a specific Dayton, OH, yearbook (Roosevelt High 1942 or 1943) is the thing you need/want most in the world. And you're getting a little desperate for it.

65 years ago this week, my grandfather Frank Whitworth retired. He had worked for 52 years with the same company, I J & G Cooper at 7 Dale Street ("Seven Dale House") Manchester - although that included his 3 years active service in the war.
52 years working for the same organisation sounds so strange now!
Mention in the Evening Chronicle and something in the in-house magazine.
We only overlapped by a few months so I don't remember him at all.
I thought this kind of marriage was not cool in 1858 in Britain? A bit confused by this one. I mentioned deceased wife's sister marriage like a week or so ago & I thought it didn't become legal 'til 1907, so I wonder what's going on in the 1850s? #Genealogy
George Bruce died 28 September 1878 in Iquique, Tarapaca, Peru (now Chile) "thrown into the water by the capsizing of a small boat". Master of the the barque Ringdove, Greenock at the time. Son of Benjamin Bruce & Ellen Corrigill, Little Ayre, North Walls, born around 1831. Married twice: Jemima Ross, 1864; Ann Malcomson, 1870; both North Walls. #Running brought me friendships and races all over the world.
#Genealogy brought me connections with far-flung cousins and ancestral homes in the US and Canada
#reading has taken me to every corner of the world and every era in time as well as friendships with other readers.

Interesting that his father (my g5gf) Samuel's occupation is given as Webster - an old name for a loom operator, or weaver - although it sounds such a 21st century occupation.
Also interesting that pic 1 is from the bishop's transcript, certified as a true copy of the original (pic 2). However my g5gm's name Mary has been mis-transcribed as Margrat.

Good morning! Today I woke up still excited about a discovery I made yesterday in my family tree. I found my 2xgreat grandparents + their children on a passenger list when they immigrated from Ireland to Boston.
I know this isn't big news for anyone else, but I've worked on this for weeks. I had to learn a lot about Irish + immigration records, but I did it + I'm proud of myself. I'll be smiling all day.
Find something to smile about today, even though it's Monday.

Just finished reorganizing 1127 #Genealogy files for my Davies family (the one I get my surname from). A folder for each of my direct ancestors & every sibling(which also contains all their descendants). @megansmolenyak how cool! When I lived in Genoa we visited the smaller version of this museum (part of the Galata Maritime Museum, which is mentioned in the article). But now I can’t wait to go back to check out this new museum! No doubt it will be rich treasure trove for anyone doing #italian #genealogy research.

@OurAncestors oh that's a shame. I do have a genuine 108 year old in mine.
Auntie Hilda, my great aunt (my Nan's sister in law), Hilda (Jackson) Baybutt, born 07/02/1908 in Salford, died 10/11/2016 in Bournemouth.
We often visited her and her husband in Bournemouth when we went on family holidays to the south coast. Pic is when they visited us in 1974 for a family wedding.
There are some online articles about her achieving 108 in the Bournemouth press.
The #Hapsburgs chin is a result of #genetic flaws by inbreeding. The attached image shows just how 'close' they were when it comes to marrying. It created a broken gene pool. Uncle <-> Niece or 1st Cousins!

Was reading this article yesterday someone recommended in a #Genealogy forum (Gur Alroey, "Out of the Shtetl, In the footsteps of Eastern European Jewish emigrants to America, 1900-14") and wow so fascinating. I now realize I knew almost nothing about the difficult journey many poor #Jewish emigrants took from the Russian Empire to the USA.
Unfortunately, I don’t seem to be able to get a free link for non-subscribers, but this video is so worth watching that I’m sharing it anyway. If you’re able to access it, please take a few minutes to watch this fascinating tale. #genealogy #Geneadons

I started in 2007, when I found Mum's grandparents in the 1901 #census before pushing further back into the 1800s.
Intrigued by the various Atcherleys I found I started researching them all in an attempt to work out which ones were 'mine'. This led to a #OneNameStudy (or #SurnameStudy) - hence my handle 'AtcherleyONS'.

Discovered my American whaler ancestor had children with a Maori woman. He was based at Kapiti.1835-1842. Her name was Nani, their son Tamati. There was a daughter too. Their descendants will carry the blue eye gene. I don't know what happened to them. I would like to find descendants of this whanau and share stories.
