To no one's surprise, turns out the #GoogleGemini demo was faked.
The long video showing the system proactively responding to a video feed was in fact a series of carefully selected prompts in text + static images.
The video (featuring the system talking about ducks and magic tricks) was, as best, inspired by the answers and 100% staged.

AI creativity has come a long way in recent years, but there's still something missing.
I really enjoyed this paper (https://sci-hub.st/10.1016/S0004-3702(98)00055-1) that explores what "creativity" really is, examples of artificial creativity in computers, and the gap between us and them.
The fun part is it was written in 1998. It's fascinating to compare LLMs to the examples Boden cites, to see how far we've come and how far we have left to go. The creativity framework she provides is super useful for doing this.
In particular, we still haven't made much progress in getting AI to understand what humans value, and how to use that to assess and refine its own work (hence iterative prompt engineering). There's also still a huge problem with depending on human curation. That's less obvious now that LLMs are just scooping up vast quantities of text instead of carefully curated datasets, but it's still happening behind the scenes (often with terrible worker conditions).

A group of researchers managed to get both Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion and OpenAI’s DALL-E 2 text-to-image models to disregard their policies and create images of naked people, dismembered bodies, and other violent and sexual scenarios.
Their work, which they will present at the IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy in May next year, shines a light on how easy it is to force generative AI models into disregarding their own guardrails and policies, known as “jailbreaking.” It also demonstrates how difficult it is to prevent these models from generating such content, as it’s included in the vast troves of data they’ve been trained on, says Zico Kolter, an associate professor at Carnegie Mellon University. He demonstrated a similar form of jailbreaking on ChatGPT earlier this year but was not involved in this research."

一方で、生成 AI とその学習の元になったであろう作品にはそういう関係が今後構築されることってあるのかな？という、心配というか淡い危惧する気持ちみたいなのもある。
なんとなく「生成 AI という圧倒的に効率的で便利なものがもうできちゃった以上は、何を学習したとか学習されたとか言ったところで、もう生身の人間じゃ勝てないんだから、勝つためには生成 AI 使うしかないし、いまさら不当に学習された！とか言ったって一時のお金を引っ張ってくるくらいが関の山で、もうあとの祭りだよね！」という雰囲気みたいなものも感じている :tony_neutral:
