Day 3 of #ArtAdventCalendar
Today, I'm sharing a piece I call "Self-Drawing Code". It's both an image and python code. The code takes itself, as a string of text, and creates an image based on the each letter, number, space, and special character in that text.
My main inspiration was protein folding, and how the amino acids in a protein determine how the 3d protein structure forms.
Another early one, the predecessor of ‘opposing forces’ I showed here previously. This one was me playing with continuous lines--the whole plot is one continuous a stroke, one pen down, one pen up. ‘crush my body with so much force’ 9”x12” Pilot V5 on watercolor paper.

I ran out of pages in my sketchbook yesterday, so I had to go get a new one. Sadly, they didn't have my favorite sketchbook maker and I had to try a different one.
I was nervous about the paper, so I drew a comforting (for me) pattern to draw today.
The paper actually turned out to be nice!
Here's an in-progress photo of today's #inkyDays drawing.
I have to admit, it feels weird to be making art without using R
Just remembered that I made this a while ago: https://www.aesthr.com/infinite-mountains/
It's an infinite sound landscape that you can navigate through and explore its various harmonies.
(mouse or other pointing device required, headphones recommended)
Another version of an older plotter drawing of mine! Trying out some new colors.
I'm getting ready for a craft fair in Jersey City on 12/9, but if you would like to buy any of my drawings as a holiday present, I have a few up in my store as well!
One more from the heap of raw ideas and unfinished projects: This one from almost precisely 2 years ago, going under the working title "Computational Lace", but really a kind of fractal process based on an initial 2D SDF, creating a surprising amount of complexity from even the simplest seed shapes...
This is again one of these projects requiring a full size view to appreciate the fine structures emerging...

Thinking about more rooms in the pattern I've been playing with over the last few days of #inkyDays drawings.
It's a new month, so I'm starting new posts for my supporters on Patreon and Ko-fi. I'll be posting this month's in-progress and finished drawings in these posts.
The only limit to your goals, is your own imagination.
2 FREE Wallpapers for you to use.
Also uploaded to my Ko-fi completely uncompressed for free here: https://ko-fi.com/i/IJ3J3RPUSO
The growth pattern I've been playing with also reminds me of structures that ants build. So I went with negative space coloring today.
And that's a wrap, for this month of daily drawing. All of this months drawings are now posted for my supporters on Patreon and K0-fi:
Tomorrow, I'll start new posts for December.
I'll be generating a lot of #KoruTawa configurations over the next few weeks as part of a larger project. I'm experimenting with lots of different driving parameters, trying to meet different abstract criteria. It'll be challenging, so I'd like to share some unused ones that catch my eye over this span occasionally, and hopefully you all can help me to keep my momentum going.
The very first thing I plotted with a fountain pen. This was so long ago that I don’t remember why the centering is so off -- I think maybe I had the paper oriented incorrectly. I love the blue 😍 Untitled 11”x15” fountain pen on watercolor paper.
Note to ADHD brain: Get your act together and finish work on S-TRACE, one of maaany unfinished projects started last year... A mini thread of some WIPs...
This thought was triggered by @meuns's post about Radiance Cascades:
One thing I've realized is that when I'm working on an animated generative work, I have a tendency to sit at my desk and watch it for long stretches of time. Makes it a little challenging to get things done. 😅
It's also a PITA to try to export video on a regular basis, so I end up just posting screenshots from several minutes into the animation, which feels a little underwhelming. "It's cool! Trust me." 😝
The process of adding my drawings to my shop is slow going, but at least it's actually happening.
This is one of my favorite drawings. Both in the process of drawing and in the finished results.
Cellular Noir. Preliminary candidates for limited monochrome editions of prints of https://thi.ng/c-scape, my co-evolving multi-cellular automata simulation piece from last year...
(Due to pixel filtering in thumbnail, likely only to be displayed properly if shown at full size. If in doubt right click, open image in new tab...)
With code, and inspiration from chemistry and physics, I create the patterns for my scarves. Then I work with a local textile company to make them.
Since I'm not doing any in-person events for a while, I've created a sale code for my etsy shop: SCARF2023
