In my job, I have to request GIS data from various agencies and organizations a couple of times a week.
I can't tell you how nice it is when my request is answered almost immediately. <3
Most of the time, I wait weeks for the data.
I want to create a map-based form where people can drop a point on a map and answer some other questions. Survey123 obviously can do this, but plot twist this needs to be free. What tool can I use for this? #gischat

These are often used in engineering for pipelines and cables.
I would suggest that you could remove the marginalia off the bottom and right of each frame and perhaps use greyscale to pick out the data better.
Units in the bottom left should be "Metres"
You should reference the basemap provider copyright too :P

There's a new map style on OpenStreetMap.org! The Tracestrack Topo map from @tracestrack.
It's a mix of osm-carto and OpenTopoMap. It has many improvements: more tag support (busway, embankment, cuisine, solar plants, aquaculture, pitch, sea, tree etc.), CJK fonts, etc. There is
also better internationalisation: country specific road shields, peaks
using imperial system in the US, hierarchical place rendering in China, etc.

The old, simple rectangle didn't include many maritime Alpine areas, so we're changing tweaking it.

I have a ~ 8 GiB GeoJSON file. What's would you use to compress it? gzip is regular and fast, but not as space saving. Something installable via apt on debian
(and no cheeky answers like converting it out of geojson! 😛 I wanna know what The Cool Kids are using as compression tools now-a-days)

This vexing crop issue with QGIS vector exports? With world maps, if a shape is cut in half at the outermost meridians, the pieces get connected across the world instead of along each edge, creating annoying stripes. In simple cases it is relatively painless to fix manually. (The rendered preview shows the map correctly.)
The solution is to uncheck ”simplify geometries" in the export pane.
