Wooo hoo! Oven Pump day! It took a bit of planning and lots emails, but bakeouts CAN happen at Urbanglass!

Been wanting to see these tube in tubes pumped for awhile. I phosphored the inside myself to get that colorful #light - my coatings are still pretty uneven, but I love the colored light. Next up for those is mirrorizing the outer jacket and filling with mineral oil.

The big #purple tube's soft #krypton glow will look good in the dark.

pieces baking out in the oven while under vacuum. Annealing and vacuuming in one go! On the table is a manifold I made for 4 mercury traps and viton connections for easy movement and isolation.

Big purple pain in the butt filled and lit for testing before tip off. About 10 torr of Krypton makes that white glow (755 torr is atmosphere) Toxic fiber frax blankets abound in my bricked up support layer. Client was stoked!

My gang of four phosphored double tubes- they all made it (one tip off is a little gnarly)

The warm glow coming from two of the double tubes. I love the light quality from some of these warm whites. Even the yellows are neat when mixed in. My coating is thick and flakey in some spots

$A rippled pattern molded into window glass where each ripple, and each angle of each ripple in x, y, and z dimensions refract the outside light into broad areas of color and value. In this case, there are blue color expanses of open sky and a lesser green expanse in the top right corner from nearby trees. The brightness values are somewhat similar to the values that what would be seen through clear glass but tends to be brighter where the ripple is raised and dark in the valleys between the ripples.$

As the studio was closing down I was able to carry out plans to sneak these pieces into the big kiln and move the manifold over for a proper bakeout. Huzzah! All the lines pumped and mounted! Yeah I could fuss with the alignment of some of the lines a little more. I just gotta add the cord strain reliever thing and stick the cleat on the back.

Feels good to have all those tubes mounted. Its a nice, #bright light! While dimming messes with the camera, it doesn't seem to affect scannability. Still wont scan from every angle, but it does #scan from more when its on.

Made a few tube in tubes today at Urbanglass. The outer tube heats the inner and then they both bend. Its tricky, and I am still practicing for sure. Borosilicate is a very different glass and the gas oxy carlisle torches are pretty different- but so nice and hot! I gotta try larger diameter inner and outer tubes next time.
Excited to dust coat some of these, and make a few more!

A rainbow sunrise doodle I made the other day! I have a rainbow of some small scraps that I have been mixing in with #sunrise- a nice, bright warm white. I also want to make a rainbow candle with candlelight -another day. Rainbows with these colors tend to be a little green/blue heavy, so the yellowy orange of the sunrise helps balance things out. I should make a red/ orange heavy rainbow doodle- so many to make so little time.
