When I left teaching, right near the top of the todo list was to return to #Glastonbury. It will have been 20 years but here we come! 😎😎😎

For a very, very brief moment or two, I was almost alone at the top of Glastonbury Tor. I’ve never managed to be the only human up there, but it’ll happen. Still, today was beautiful because it FELT like I was alone, and had these two gorgeous crows hovering just overhead. They came much closer to me than the photo shows, but I didn’t dare move to scare them off. 💚

#Nanowrimo Day 6 and my progress has been hijacked by a new story idea (this is good, I was need of another one) but it's not leaving a lot of writing "time" for what is supposed to be my main project. This means the characters are still in Glastonbury, and they've decided to have a look around so they might be there a while. Not sure I have enough photos to get through :)
Anyway, here's the 14th century church tower on Glastonbury Tor.

Looking up at a tall grey stone wall. A pigeon sits in a window, one of pair of narrow arch windows typical of an old church. Empty of glass. Above is a wide niche, maybe it held a statue. Another level is visible above but hard to make out. It might be arched windows again or they might be round.
The walls are very weathered, the gaps between the stones not very visible and they are covered in white patches, the might be lichen or might be pigeon poo. If the pigeon knows, it's not telling, It's looking rather smug though.

I'm guessing #braverman will not be joining the Q for #glastonbury tickets, given her lack of enthusiasm for temporary tent dwellers....

Day 4 of #nanowrimo finds my characters still in Glastonbury. Storywise, this is good because they only have six locations to visit and we're already on the third one, so the longer they stay there, the better. Not so good for finding "interesting photos". So, here is my favourite abbey and it's late 12th century great church. (Everyone has a favourite abbey, right?)

Writingwise, I am 9300. I toyed with the idea of doing the extra 700 but only briefly. Possibly I am the only person doing Nano who is trying *not* to write lots of words every day.

So day 3 of #Nanowrimo is Glastonbury, and the two springs, White and Red.
The White Spring comes out in an old well house, in a large, cavernous dark room full of water, light and echoing music. The water contained calcium calcite.
The Red Spring emerges at the top of the garden and runs along a stone course, to a series of ponds. The red comes from iron oxides in the water (and tastes rusty).

(And yes, I am writing too. 6847 words so far and I hate most of them. The virtually visiting places is the best bit)

A dark enclosed, with old brick walls and a high ceiling. Bright walls are attached to the wall and sit on shelves. In the background a low wall, barely visible, marks a bathing pool. A wide but shallow stream of water runs from this to the foreground Lights reflect of it. In the back corner are two glowing white birds.

A narrow stream runs down a stone wall and down a series of rocky levels. Leafy vines and ferns grow over and down the stone wall. The branch of the tree hangs over the garden, shading it and making the garden beyond the wall bright by comparison.
When the stream runs over the wall it is strained a dark red.

And for those of you curious about the #Glastonbury #YeoValley trousers .. here's husband in 2019 with the suit and waistcoat made from previous year's festival bags. Very stylish green lining too. Suit was made by his very talented mother!

Completely understand that #BurningMan folk are trapped in the middle of nowhere ..but how can they call that mud? Those of us who have experienced a wet #Glastonbury know what mud is. This was 2011 with husband in the welly sucking mud. Can't find pictures from 1997 when water was just below top of my wellies.. or 2005 when 2 guys paddled a boat through a flooded camping field.

A picture of very thick and sticky mud which has lots of peaks and troughs from all the people trying to walk through it. A man's legs with white (very muddy) wellies and pale coloured trousers (made from cotton festival bags) are in the centre of the picture. And apologies for the poor mud description..maybe we need more mud related words to properly describe textures and stickiness!
