Denialism is a position that systematically reacts by refusing reality. The uncomfortable state of cognitive dissonance is when pledges and agreements are signed and the actions don't line up. A denialism mindset can just discount inconvenient facts and public opinion and press on with business as usual.
The house of cards built over the last 200 – 500 years is collapsing. Biodiversity, its foundation, is eroding and the climatic environment becomes increasingly hostile to (human) life.
As long as the paper work looks good, the PR framing is cogent and the institutional framework is consenting, it's 'just do it!'
All could be so perfect if it was not for the disruptive human factor which poses an obstacle to the overuse of nature. To declare that the non-human natural world has a right to exist. To write the rights of (voiceless) nature into constitutions and force decision makers to end genocide and ecocide.

I just attended a very inspiring #FnF23 session convened by @erikkemp on the topic of Fediverse governance. People from many countries, backgrounds and groups were present.
In my opinion, it's too early for creating governing bodies, and I'm not sure we will ever need them. What I find useful is covenants that instances can sign. E.g. digitalcourage.social signed the well-known Mastodon covenant <https://joinmastodon.org/covenant> as well as the #fedimins covenant <https://fedimins.net/en/covenant/> which is still a work in progress.

As mentioned in the article, Delhi and Tamilnadu govts have already implemented this, but only locally so. Doing it statewide is quite something! Imagine the freedom that women can have traveling within almost all of the United Kingdom (Karnataka is a tad bit smaller) for free!
For every "liberal", "free-market" "rules-based order" vapid criticism and dismissal of nationalism, populism, or social welfare, there is always something profound happening in the Third World where that means transformation (it used to mean the same in US and Europe lest they forget that without the New Deal and the Marshal Plan, they would be nowhere near where they are).

I’m reminded of that Star Trek: TNG clip where Quark finds out that the people of Earth irradiated their own planet on purpose.
Not only that, the people of Earth were so feckless at self-governance, that they also let irradiation weapons into the hands of psychopaths.
If and when humanity succeeds in not irradiating itself to death, that will be the ultimate underdog story.

Start in high school at #SchoolBoard level with outreach, annual projects, & implementation with mentors (part of the paid mandatory service, but people are approved as mentors by previous colleagues) & teachers to help in logistics, resources organizing, problem solving, etc...
This afternoon at Water Operations for Uncertain Futures 2023 #AFPLwouf23, we've taken on the role of various stakeholders and mapped out how we might carry out the #water concept pitches from initiation to adaptation. The takeaways? The considerations involved in shaping #water #futures are #complex and involve many interactions between #society, #environment, #technology, #industry, and #governance. Some things are easy to #adapt and #change – but on the whole, creating #robust and #equitable #systems in this space takes time, conversations, many knowledges, hard choices, and careful planning. And whether we know it or not, we all depend on the care people in this space take in creating robust water futures for us all.
#AFPLwouf23 is the third workshop in the Algorithmic Futures Policy Lab series, which has been made possible with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. ANU Institute for Water Futures and #OneBasinCRC have taken the lead in planning and supporting this workshop. @damon @Hamishcampbell seems to be talking about creating a governance model for the #fediverse. He talks about the need for some overarching #governance model, rather than a governing body. He suggests that copying the corporations way of doing things may not play to the strengths of the fediverse. I.e the lack of control afforded by not having a governing body promotes creativity.
